| Thule bike rack that allows full open of rear door? |

Hello to everyone,
I have been desperately trying to purchase an Atera Strada considering the fact that I want to carry 2-3 bikes AND my 2 german shepherds at the cargo space. The Atera was the obvious choice since it allows for both parts of the rear door to open without having to uninstall the bike rack.
I live in Athens, Greece and we have no distributor of Atera here. Moreover, no other dealer in Europe was willing to sell and send me one, not even roofbox.co.uk.
I have no other option but to contact Thule (they have a dealer in Athens).
Can anyone reccomend which (if) Thule bike rack is available that will allow (while loaded and tilted) for both rear door parts to open?

Sorry, none of the Thule ones will tilt enough when loaded to let you open the lower part. It can be a struggle to tilt them enough to open the upper part if I'm honest. The Atera seems to be the way forward.
Don't know what line of work you're in, but if Atera don't have an importer/agent in Greece, have you thought about approaching them directly to either buy direct or even look into becoming their agent? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Unfortunately I did that, too!! They could not suggest a solution but to contact each of their dealers (in any country) individualy and see if they were willing to help me.
Atera directly were simply sorry not to be able to...sell me one!

I have a Thule G5 909 with the 4th bike adapter (http://www.thule.com/Thule/ProductPage____77038.aspx) and when tilted both sections of the rear will open comfortably. This Thule model is also easy to tilt even fully loaded with 4 bikes since it is hinged over the pivot point (unlike the previous model I had which hinged on the tow bar itself).

I stand corrected.  When I bought my 903 I was told the newer model tilted in the same way (not very well).  for correcting me  I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Had my Thule 903 on at the weekend with 4 bikes and could tip it down enough to get the lower tailgate 90% open. Probably could have managed a little more. The secret is not to undo the ball clamp but to undo the lock that sits below the ball by using the handle behind the rack number plate. Not quite as fancy as the sliding atera one but it does the job and any of the Thule ones should do this.

I had the same problem- Dog in the back and wanting to put bikes on the back-
look at the mAXXraxx website- the carrier goes onto the towbar and can carry upto 5 bikes-
It tilts backwards allowing the boot to fully open.
I can even get my dog out with the bikes and a caravan on-
Highly reccommended and if you quote Disco3.co.uk you get a discount-

At least I have a few alternatives, even though I still think that the ATera is the way to go.
