thule's new kayak carriers

I fitted the new thule kayak carriers:

Mixed feelings:
- I will now be able to enter more parking houses with the carriers fitted. Of course not all but surely more than with the permanent "antenna's"
- I had to move the carriers more to the centre of the car (in order not to have parts sticking out on the left/right of the car - the top part, which is swinging down, is the biggest) and I surely need a ladder now to load/unload the kayaks now. With the prevous version I didn't.

I don't know which version is the best...

In the middle is a holder for paddles. I am very curious if I ever will use it. An if I do, how I will reach it....

And don't use the screws that Thule supplies. They supply bolts (plastic wheels) that you can tighten by hand. I nearly lost a kayak because they can loosen up. Replace them with locking nuts (the blue plastic ring).

I am pleasantly surprised.

By putting the kayak holders more to the middle of the car, loading and unloading has unexpectedly become much easier!

I can now step on the back wheel, lean my body against the car and use both hands to manipulate the yak and paddles and tighten the straps. Before, with my previous setup (the kayaks on the edges of the car), I had to eighter use a ladder, or either stand on the wheel but hold myself with one hand and fuddle the rest with only one free hand.

Thumbs Up
