Time to fit a winch
So having made the decision to keep the D3 rather than swap to the unknown of a D4 we are now moving forward with the completion of the overland/expo build.
The next thing on the list (that requires assistance from the knowledgeable forum) is a winch.
Been casually keeping an eye on these and wondered if anyone had any thoughts one way or the other on winches?
I don't anticipate going all Camel Trophy and would be surprised if it gets used more than once a year, if that. I'm going t be brutally honest. SWMBO wants it fitted and who am I to argue?

hidden or on display ?
that one you'd have to modify the free spool lever if it was hiddenG4 Gone ...but not forgotten
Don't know much about them but the one you linked to is steel and not synthetic.
Pros and cons for each from what I have read in the past, and a divide amongst users, but if you're only using it very occasionally, would synthetic not be a better choice?Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! Have some brackets for a Warn winch (as originally fitted by LR) and also a control module and wiring if that's of any interest ?

As mentioned - hidden or not is a split opinion. I prefer not to have hidden for two reasons:
1) in my mind it makes checking spooling, access, cleaning etc easier (maybe unfounded...don't know)
2) The D3 came with the LR external winch already fitted...so not changing it (But see point 1)
Only advice I would offer (seeing as you have covered the training question) is don't skimp on the winch itself. Again, maybe just my paranoia but winches can be dangerous and deadly and personally I would want a proven manufacturer and not a cheaper, copy / "ebay special".
Plasma vs wire ? I recently swapped to plasma. IMHO its safer should it break. And its lighter when spooling in/out. For the amount of use it gets, I am happy with plasma rope MY2008 D3 - It got me hooked...gone
MY2012 D4 - It kept me hooked...gone
MY2007 D3 - Mid-Life crisis toy continues driving me to bankruptcy...
MY2018 "D5" Si6 - But is it a "true" LR...discuss...but now gone
Back in a D4 with a lot of extras....

If your only going to use the winch once a year just to get out of a hole, any of those winches will do.
To help break it down a bit, the way the winch generates that amount of pulling power to reduce the gearing.
So.....
You may see the same winch with different pulling power.
Chances are that it is the same electric motor (check the spec) but with a different gearbox (ratio) on the end.
The difference between the big winches and the medium power will be through a bigger/more powerful motor on different gear ratio's.
If your not got plans to do the Camel trophy 60% slopes, a 10,000 winch will actually do what you need it to do. Learn how to use a snach block (pulley) and it becomes a 20,000 winch.
All of the winches shown can be upgraded by fitting better/more efficient/powerful motors and solenoids which will make them more reliable.
I would definitely recommend synthetic rope which is a lot safer to use than steel rope.
Here is a link to a couple of companies that are highly rated (but I have no personal links to) that will make (hopefully) for you some interesting reading
My challenge truck currently runs three winches, so I have a bit of experience
