Time it takes to flush..

I think I've been had.

Whilst my car was 550km away in Albany being fixed up by LR, I asked the dealer to check the gearbox shudder. They called back and said it needed a flush and that I would have to pay. They said it might cost round $800. I said OK.

They rang back after doing same and said the cost was just over $500. Great, I though t, and paid over the phone.

The car came back with a somoother gearbox, although it;s still not right and will need a proper flush.

Then They posted me my copy of the invoice.

2 litres, yes 2 litres, was all they flushed through the box. Seems they didn't drain the ATF, just flushed through until clean appeared. Labour component $320!!!

Question is..How long would it take to remove the plates and bolts and flush 2 measly litres through???

I'd like some ideas before I ring them up.

TIA
 Have a nice day!

I had my gearbox oil changed [not flushed] to cure 'the judder'.
It cured it and cost was £200.
If I went for a double flush, the cost would have been £360.

That should give you some sort of comparison.

It's the oil that's expensive - not just the dealers time.

I can't believe it's physically possible to flush with just 2 litres. A flush implies a major clean out.

If I wanted to 'refresh' the oil with 2 litres, I'd use one of those vacuum systems to suck out 2 litres and then push back the new 2 litres. I'd estimate about 20 minutes work there. Including a coffee break. Twice. With a check for any interesting new forum messages in-between.

Any chance they meant 12 litres and mistyped it, resulting in your cost saving?

I cam up with a similar time. Maybe your right and they misstyped the ATF used in their system (but I doubt it).

I'll ring tomorrow, find out their cahrge per hour for labour and discuss it with the workshop foreman.
