Timed / Remote Climate - not particularly warm

Lots of use for Timed and Remote Climate at the moment. My FBH appears to be working as use of Timed/Remote results in an instant start without waiting for the glow plugs. Snow/ice/frost on the bonnet is melted above the FBH and the FBH can be heard working.

That said, the cabin temp isn't particularly warm, even after a full 20 minute FBH cycle. A little frost is cleared from the windscreen and on less brisk days the air is marginally warmer than outside but it's still pretty damned chilly in there. I know it prioritises engine coolant temp but still...

Is this a normal thing? If so, I wouldn't say Remote Climate was particularly useful at warming the cabin prior to you getting in and starting the engine.

PS. Also, if the engine coolant temp is not stone cold, remote climate actually cools the interior by drawing in unheated outside air and not kicking in the FBH. Hmm.

This has been exactly my experience in both FFRR L322 and D4. It's nothing more than a 'defroster', IMO.

20 mins isn’t really long enough to get things “warm” in cab if sub freezing temps, especially on a D4 where the fans come on too, it will just make it easier on the engine starting and warm the cabin slightly. In these temps I run mine about 30-40 mins. If you look on the fbh section there are a few posts about it.

this happen because most of us have activated the parking remote function without adding the additional 3-ways valve....

with the 3-way valve, the car pump all the heated water only to the cabin circuit.....

For the installation it is necessary to change several hoses..

Is there a setting that can be changed to up the 20 mins to 30 or 40 mins?

dgardel: I have an HSE Lux so Timed Climate as standard. Therefore I'm pretty sure I have the 3-way valve.

From http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/documen.../G1801835:

The Timed climate control system provides a comfortable temperature inside the cabin in advance of the driver and passengers entering the vehicle.

The Auxiliary heater is also operated to warm the engine and aid starting in very cold conditions.

NOTES
If the Auxiliary heater is used to warm the engine, the cabin will not be warmed.

So basically, in cold temperatures (which is exactly when you would want to use it), it does not warm the cabin. Nice one LR! Rolling Eyes

However this document http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/se...ontrol.pdf states:
If the external temperature is between +15°C
(59°F) and -20°C (-4°F), then the passenger
compartment is heated using the engine's
auxiliary heater. If the external temperature is
below -20°C (-4°F), the heat is automatically
directed to the engine to assist engine starting
Once the engine has been heated sufficiently
heat will be directed to enable cabin heating
providing battery state of charge is sufficient

Maybe they changed the logic for certain model years?

Mine was enabled on an XS and definitely blows warm air through the vents, but it is just that - warm not hot. Getting in the vehicle on a frosty morning, the glass is clear, the interior temperature is 'not freezing cold' but just bearable in shirt sleeves, so it's fantastic, but I'd never use the term 'toasty warm' as often gets used on this forum.

Further research suggests this may be by design:
