Following a full and frank discussion with my estate agent about his precise role in the sale of my old house (he's done eff all in exchange for a not inconsiderable sum) it now appears that exchange and completion are still some weeks away. As I will be wanting my D3 in a bit of a hurry once the sale completes and I actually have the cash I've pretty much decided that buying new is a no-no and have seen LR Approved list a fair number of low mileage SE spec for the £30-32k mark.
The downside is that most are some distance from me and all are late 05 or early 06 and will doubtless have many "rectify on customer request/complaint" issues outstanding.
So my question is, what's the best way to make sure all the potential issues are fixed? Would I be able to sit down with the service manager and go through the available updates and TSBs, comparing those available with those recorded against the vehicle?
Any suggestions appreciated. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
It may not have many faults at all, plenty of good ones out there.
Ask to see the vehicle history, all dealer work should be recorded, ensure it's had the VEP done and take it for a good long test drive
...and don't by an silver 06MY HSE from Stratstones in Nottingham The End
I'm finding myself strangely drawn towards Cairns blue...... Neither Silver nor Black (black, black! Like the very depths of hades! Satan's soul!! Black!!!!)I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
Brother in Law has a D3 in Cairns Blue with privacy and I have to say it does have a certain presence about it.

But then again a certain Cairns Blue D3 G4+ has just had a good wash and will have had everything that can go wrong fixed, including a new wiring loom that's going in this week BTW along with a new park brake.
And although its been 4x4d it has been looked after and treated with care Just ask the boys they know how much I have looked after her In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

There's washing, and then there's WASHING Strata Florida stylee
If you go through a LR Dealership, they will look on their system for a car matching your spec and have it sent to you for a £500 deposit, subject to seeing. You can state how particular you are and that you will not accept any tat, so don't send it!
I bought my FFRR with no service books, but only because I got the Dealership to print its entire history off their system. It was very detailed and listed everything that had happened to the car remidial or service related etc., even that the AA were called as it had run out of fuel.
Two problems with new: I really want Xenons, which is a cost option on 07 spec SEs and I will need delivery in under 2 weeks from when I have the money and say yes, which is likely to be 01 Feb, which may work out if the right one is sat in a dealer's stock somewhere but is unlikely.
Now to start a thread on the pros and cons of roofrails......I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
Hi Nodo$h,
I was intending to buy a used D3 and hadn't even considered buying new. I had always thought that I would have to be a very rich man before being in a position to buy a new car!
But after spending a Sunday afternoon with my dealer and him being very patient with me, he quoted a price on a new XS model that was too hard to resist!
I too compromised on the xenons, but was able to buy some from Cliff H for a very reasonable price.
If, as me you intend to keep the car for at least 3 years, there's nothing quite like having a full 3 years warranty in front of you.Back in the game!

If you look hard enough there are cars out there - really good spec too.
You could probably get an 06 plate HSE less than 10k miles for around 33k if you could stretch the budget a little !!
I know what you're saying DD, but this way madness lies, for deep down I know I'll start looking at the options list and before I know it I'll have specced an 07 SE with locking diff and various other bits and will be merrily waiting 3 months for a factory build. Possibly.
In a nutshell I should, no WILL be getting the funds at the beginning of Feb and need to have the vehicle in my grubby hands by no later than 14 Feb, complete with some form of roofrack, ready for a jaunt down to the alps at half term. Not an ideal way of spending £30k+ but my estate agent has made sure this will be the way it happens (may he rot for eternity).
The alternative is to spend close on £800 hiring a suitable vehicle (4x4 with space for 7 bodies and ski gear) then spec up and order the "right" vehicle. But I've already had to wait months! I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
Hi Russ. Yes, the HSE question keeps popping into my head too. I plan on keeping this vehicle for 4-5 years, so the added complexity involved in some of the toys (granted, not many but memory seats and additional aircon both = big bucks if they fail in years 4/5) causes me to pause and take stock.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
