TomTom mount question
I'm going to mount the PC cradle for my TomTom 720 in the centre cubby tray (where the posh D3s have their LR satnav) as an alternative to windscreen mounting "Suzie". I have the TMC adapter which connects into the base of the tomtom so will drill a hole through the base & feed the cable up from underneath, no issues there. What I don't then have is any way of charging the tomtom as the cable attached (fixed) to the stand is a USB cable. Anyone know if there is any gadget that I can plug into the 12 socket that I can then plug this USB plug into to provide power to the TomTom???
I'd take some pics but there is no juice in the camera and I can't find the charger!

you can plug the 12v charger into the side of the home dock. I did this for a while and then removed the USB cable. I looked really neat in there BUT after a little while I "lost" the spoken instuctions, if you went into demo mode it would speak to me, but once you set an address into it and started to drive the unit stopped giving spoken instructions. No one could explain why this happened, not even Tomtom and in the end I used the windscreen mount upside down stuck to a piece of perspex in the bottom of the cubby tray, since then no proplems.

Useless bit of info ; Tom Tom & Blackberry's use the same power jack , saved be buying an in car car charger for my Blackberry.

Unfortunately the car charger is no good as the "small usb" type plug that fits into the tomtom is in the base of the stand.

Above shows how the unit would sit in the desk stand, unfortunately that means that you can not plug in a power cable to it as the socket for that is underneath the tomtom (plug part of the stand).

Have you looked at the brodit mounts?

they fit on the side of the central console.
I have their mount + holder for phone on the driver's side of the console and their mount + holder for tomtom on the passenger side.
In such a way you do not need to sacrifice a handy box for everything possible. And power supply is very easy to hide coming from the foot space.
GPS signal is good although the tomtom doesn't realy look at the sky.

They are similar to one of the other mounts available (forgotten their name s) however the cradle that came with the unit is ideal for mounting in the sat nav cubby box, does not get in the way & can be seen by driver & passanger. Will get a 12V to USB converter sorted, Amplins have them so will try local branch.

DSL, I used a dash disc from ebay to stick the windscreen mount in the cubby, works a treat and you can run the normal charger wires etc down inside. Just trim the rubber mat around and it looks tidy.

I did the same as CFB and I am very pleased (didn't run any cables though *lease company *)
I also decided to cut all of the back of the matt off rather than the circle - has the added benefit of providing a lip to hold things in place that you slip in there when not used the tomtom
The angle offered by the PC dock was not as good or adjustable for different angles etc the mounting disks you can get off ebay are a great idea imho2007 TDV6 XS Silver

cfb, the mounts have changed, see below. They do not let U stick it to the dash as the cables go into the tomtom from below and foul the floor of the cubby box. Whilst I'll use the suction mount for SWMBO's car (occasional use), the cubby slot is the best place but with the desk stand.
Agreed the angle of the desk stand is not adjustable but when I put the stand in there & put the tomtom on teh stand it was pretty much as I'd have placed it anyway. I'll mess around with positions before I fix it to the floor of the slot.

DSL, your home dock is different from the one on my Tomtom 710, did not realise they had changed.

Also the screen mount has changed which does not make it very easy to dash mount, esp as the cables go into the base of the unit:
