for me the design of the split tailgate arrangement is far better than my previous d2, ever tried opening and keeping open that huge door on an incline or in windy conditions ? for getting stuff out of the boot, just lean on the tailgate and the rear bumper has useful foottreads on it . lower tailgate's also really handy for standing on when loading stuff onto the roofbars I've found and theeeeennn......???

I love the tailgate, even if you can't reach the back of the trunk. It has many other advantages. And mainly, it reminds me one of my favorite toys, a die cast range rover, that had a similar split tailgate!

Yes , that's true, I found it when loading 2 kayaks, a raft and the paddles on the roof BUT you need to vacuum cleaner each time......

The D3 tailgate is one of it's best features. Just go down one dusty trail, or a muddy one, or picnic in the rain, or on a windy day, or with something heavy in your other hand, or....

It would be even better if Land Rover made it open and close remotely, like the Lexus RX, that would be a very cool feature

Angel1403 - It's one of those things that grows on you relatively quickly. I hated it at first and it nearly stopped me buying the car. It's one of my favourite aspects now
Here are my top ten reasons for preferring the new design........
You can reverse-park close to an obsticle and still open the door.
You can park at either side of the road
You can open the door in a crosswind and it isn't a sail
You have a picnic seat with a cover over it
You have a grandstand elevated viewing point
You can deal with items on the roof more effectively
You can let the dogs breath without letting them out
You can slide things in and out more easily
You can actually see out of the back window
It doesn't weigh 2 tonnes as there is no spare wheel
Any more for any more??

It is also excellent dirt preventer for your pants. While you are trying to reach front of the boot, there is very few people whom would not touch bumper with their trousers ect.
It was real problem with Terrano and I don't miss it att all (whole car actually ).

Sorry but there is one thing that it is no good for and that is those of us who are not so tall................... my car prior to the RRS was a full size RR and reaching into the front of the boot space sometimes meant climbing onto the tailgate................. solved that for small items that rolled forwards easily buy buying a Freelander luggage net "envelope" that stretched across the width of the boot and could be hooked onto the little hooks that were on the boot sides in the RR. Could hang it across the outer set, just inside the lower flap or at the inner set about halfway along the boot so things like umbrellas and so on didn't disappear into the depths. RRS boot doesn't have the same hooks so I haven't been able to sling the nets in the RRS boot
Don't know if the D3 has the small luggage hooks moulded into the boot side trim that the RR had, they were at the same height as the luggage space cover and down near the floor, those who don't like having to climb into the D3 might consider the Freelander nets option for stowing small items. Now a disillusioned new Land Rover buyer and have jumped ship to something less expensive and more reliable that hugs trees.... now driving a Mini Countryman PHEV as well as my trusty and brilliant 1996 Epsom Green Defender90 Tdi300

Not to mention the fact that you can also get full access when the trailer is attached without the risk of bashing the dore on the raised jockey wheel.

Thanks for finding that.
My VIN is about 20 letters higher than those detailed.
However, I will mention it to the dealer
