Low coolant warning

Hi,
oh got the low coolant warning coming up on the way to work this morning. I haven't noticed any specific drips anywhere... should i be worried?

What is the preferred coolant to refill her with? It's a '55 V8 ?

cheers

Hi
check the coolant level in the reservoir if it's showing full and there's definitely no leaks I would suspect the sensor mounted in the reservoir is playing up assuming it's the same on the v8 as the tdv6 .its not available separately you have to replace the reservoir .do a search on here there's plenty of info about it . Thumbs Up

There's two possible scenarios here. The first is that there genuinely is insufficient coolant in your cooling system, in which case you should only worry if little things like your engine exploding and becoming a supernova with a heat to rival the sun bother you.

Or it could be the low level sensor on the fritz, and you need to spend 15 quid to replace it.

Easy way to find out which it is, is open the bonnet and have a look. Thumbs Up

I intermittently had a similar issue a few years ago, especially when driving uphill under load.

I topped up the coolant with about 100ml (so not very much) and haven't had any issues since.

[If topping up it is important to follow the mix instructions to ensure you are not diluting or enriching the coolant mix - its thermal properties (resistance to freezing and overheating) depend upon the mix with water being correct.]

Cellardweller, the sensor is available separately, though I've only seen it as a pattern part, not genuine.

Level sensor is PCJ500030 - same for TDV6 and V8 - and available as a genuine part.

Hi
I had this issue in July. Had a service - dealer couldn't find a leak but put dye in. Low coolant level again warned back end of August took only 400ml. Took back to dealers who couldn't locate any leak but replaced the sensor as a precaution. Two weeks ago, again low coolant level so back into dealers. This time they tested the system with much higher pressure than it operates on. Result - EGR valve coolers leaking - picked the car up yesterday - hopefully now sorted.
Moral - have the system tested under extreme pressure.
