Instrument Cluster

My 2007 HSE has been in the shop for a few days now. It started giving me a transmission fault with the DSC/HDC & special programs off. The truck ran fine and shifted fine and the lights went out on restart. Occasionally the red (P) light would come on and flash for a bit when I shut the truck off. Last week, the whole Christmas tree came on the dash along with interior lights on, 4-way flashing, E for transmission setting, etc. I drove it the shop (bonus of converting to coils) figuring a Canbus wire corroded. They seem to think right now the wiring is fine, it needs a new cluster. As they are now $1000 CDN, I want to be sure. The shop thought it was the cluster a previous time and it was wiring. We did have a park brake switch code and replaced the switch but still had the same messages. When I was starting the truck and driving, before the Christmas tree dash, the fault could take from 3 minutes to 20 minutes to reveal itself. Thoughts. It doesn't seem to be quite the same issues as others have had with instrument clusters.
Also, I've read that you can and you cannot reprogram a cluster. Can you? There's a couple of LR3's in my friends parts yard we could grab a cluster from.
Thanks for any and all advice.

Cluster can be reprogramed with IID tool.

How new is your battery, I find my car is very sensitive to low voltage, on a frosty cold morning I get the special programs off Message when I first start the car. Once the car is warm and I restart the car I don't see the message again.

I run a dual battery setup and still get these errors on frosty mornings.

Hi,

In my case we have observed different odd issues for many weeks. Different garages and nothing.
At the end a very good LR indy electrician checked it through (every part) and diagnosed that the something was broken inside instrument cluster. It was changed to a new one. We are happy with it till today (2 yrs). Very Happy

ColinHughes:
Have you removed the cluster and visually examined the connections and refitted it?- simply undoing the plugs and refitting can clean the contacts. Very easy to remove the cluster.
With the help of an Iid tool you can fit a used cluster, don't ask me how just do a painstaking search on the site Thumbs Up
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I had the same faults.
The hazards blinking.
Car will not start wenn blinking.
Sometimes everything is ok and i can start.
The car drives ok.
A lot of can-buss faults that can be deleted when the car is not blinking.
Is sent my cluster to cluster repairson tuesday. It arrived on friday. I have not yet heard of them.
I hope they find something.

It appears it is the cluster and a new one is on order. Should be in and programmed next week. Hopefully I'll be back up and running without dash lights and error messages. I am enjoying the mid-7 lts per 100 kms I'm getting from the loaner shop car though Smile

I've had the beast back for almost a week with the new cluster. So far, so good. I am slowly getting my seat back to where I like it and fixing some of the settings I had and lost when the new cluster was installed like turning off TPMS and auto mirror dipping.
