diesel fuel freeze
Hello,
i live up in the mountains and i anticipate diesel freezing issues. Which type of diesel fuel antifreeze is the best?Is there anything else i could do? The quality of the diesel fuel is bad in Greece..
Which ice-snow winter tire is the best for my Disco (255/55/19)?
Wurth winter diesel additive is popular in the Alps, so I guess that's a good starting point.
As for tyres, there are lots of threads on the different winter Tyre options. Are you able to get Nokian tyres near you? Our members in Norway rate them I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Disco winter
Thanks,
Ia am trying to find Nokian Hakka R2 but its not easy.
Is there any Land Rover winterized parts i could use?
I have heard of heated fuel filters etch. When it gets bellow -5 the
Disco freezes and i have to transport it to a heating room in the valey to get it running again...
I've used the Wurth additives down to -17°C without trouble. It's a good idea to keep your battery on an overnight maintenance charge in very cold conditions, plus well worth investing in a remote control from BAS so you can remotely fire the Fuel Burning Heater and pre-heat the engine in the morning.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Thanks again. Will follow your advice. However wont the preheating device be running from the same diesel tank?
Meaning that if diesel freezes the heater wont start anyway.

Notwithstanding your concerns with the fuel quality the D3 and D4 are designed for cold conditions. The fuel system, cooler and filter are all designed to keep fuel warm enough to avoid waxing. In addition, there is a bypass in the fuel pump module that opens to allow fuel to flow via a coarse mesh rather than the usual fine mesh to cater for very cold conditions.
My only extreme cold weather measures are battery, seals, locks, wipers, tyres, fuel filter water purge and winter diesel.

Thanks mate.
However there is no such thing as winter diesel in Greece. On the other hand i live at an altitude of 1400m and its really cold sometimes !!!
I do not agree about the 'well protected parts of the vehicle' since mine has frozen 4-5 times. What do you mean by 'purge'. Has anyone installed the BAS remote heating system?

Problems at -5 doesn't sound right at all.
We had our Disco (not garaged) at between -5 and -10 for around 3 months without issue, and with some briefer spells well below -10.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Normal diesel is usually guaranteed until about -13 but from experience with a D3 you get no problems until less than -20.
Nokian tires best for ice (with studs) agressive mud tires best for deep snow IMHO."I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it."

Lots on the forum have one and I had one on my D3. The BAS kit is excellent but in can make for a poor start as the heated coolant tricks the ECM into believing the engine itself is warm. The side effect is that the glow plugs do not do their full cycle and the afterglow function may not work at all.
Of course, for those with poor or dead glow plugs the additional heat provided by the BAS FBHIC can be helpful.
