Lower arms and front wheel alingment. |
|
So this is the next job on the list
I'm going to order the parts from advanced factors then i'v had a couple of quotes from friends etc to fit them, as regards to the wheel alignment does it have to be a specific system? I'v even heard 'cameras' used. I'v just seen this company near me http://www.tyreandautocentregroup.co.uk/ce...alignment/ offering 4 wheel alignmen for £36! Too cheap or will this suffice?
Just another quickie when I'm on, I had the bonnet up earlier replacing a fuse for the heated screen and noticed the coolant reservoir has antifreeze up to the level, then a gap then a bit of coolant at the top of the reservoir? Like air is in the system, is this normal? Doesn't seem to be causing any issues, cheers in advance

Whilst you're doing the lower arms, I would recommend you do the inner track rods and outer track rod ends (also known as tie rods). The ball joints on the steering rack end have a tendency to wear out quicker than the track rod ends do.
Advanced Factors do a repair kit:

And whilst you're spending some money with them I can also recommend the Meyle Heavy Duty Drop Links for what little they cost:

For a proper alignment job, I would recommend you take your car to one of the following places (near you) which have Hunter equipment:

A simple alignment should suffice but if you're confident you will not be replacing any other suspension bits in the future then a full four wheel alignment - in tight tolerance mode - will give the best results.

many words written on this forum regards wheel alignment on a D3/D4
In essence to do the job correctly (bearing in mind the vehicle has air suspension with height sensors that can be thrown out due to the incorrect procedure causing the car to oscillate on alternate corners thus the vehicle will go in to limp mode or the dsc will activate around the smallest of corners), the basic rule is the vehicle has to be set to "tight tolerance mode" prior to being presented to the wheel alignment centre. To do this it has to be plugged in to LR or Approved software diagnostics.
Best practise would be to search on here under "tight tolerance" and all will be revealed
From my own personal experience, never had an issue when the car has been set up/aligned by LR, however have had numerous issues when not done by LR, ie premature wearing of tyres (inside track), vehicle going in to limp mode due to poor oscillating of the ride height and leaving me stranded by the road side etc etc.
Problem is owners look at the cost of LR and think their vehicle is a "normal car" which of course its not by any stretch of the imagination.
