EPB manual switching off after key out of egnition |
|
Hello,
I like that the EPB doesn't engage automatically if i stop the car.
I seem to be doing something wrong while i'm pulling out the key and pushing down the EPB button.
The manual discribes that you should wait about 5 secs after pulling out the key and pushing down the switch at the same time, this after the engine OFF to position 0, than turn the key to position 2.
Then position 0 and taking the key out...
The EPB applies almost every single time (as it should)
What the manual does not say is: what to do with the pedals (brake/clutch)?
It's a TDV6 2.7L manual transmission...
Can I disable the EPB function countiniously or do I have to do it every single time?
(Don't wan't to pull out the fuses...)
What am i doing wrong in the procedure?

Sorry not understanding exactly what you are trying to say?
To apply EPB when stationary pull switch up
To release push down you can be in gear to do this but clutch pedal has to be down.
If you come to a halt and turn off the ignition the EPB applies itself IF you forget!
In an emergency you can apply EPB while moving but it shortens it's life
If you apply EPB rolling backwards you will get the screaming often mentioned because the shoes don't self servo so cables have to travel to far inside module(classic car owners pre disc brakes will understand this).
There is a sequence in your manual to set EPB for servicing you then have to remove a fuse as well.
Hope this helps.

I have a 09 manual gearbox D3 and have permanently disabled the auto epb engage on removing the key. This was done with my Faultmate by disabling the function in ccf files(think it can be done with IIDTOOL also), done the same on 2006 manual D3, similarly enabled the auto release of epb on pulling away, very . I believe you can stop the epb from engaging when the key is removed, by holding the epb switch down before removing the key, no extra things to do...obviously this needs to be done every time you pull the key out and don't want the epb to engage otherwise it would revert to default of auto engage. Does yours auto release on pulling away? A few mods... and keeping it all running...Faultmate MSV2

I have an 05 manual and it ALWAYS engages EPB no matter what I do. The only way to stop it engaging is to remove the fuse!
Holding the EBP switch down makes no difference what so ever.

When your up here in the mountains with 3.5 tonnes on the back you want the thing to work as land rover intended on a manual and go on heel & toe to pull away on a 1:3 releasing just as clutch pedal starts to engage.if auto drivers use it infrequently then it wants to auto engage or it will be down a thousand feet below you as soon as they step out.

Hey,
My EPB does work as it should... It disables also when i'm driving away.
So, if i understand the answers correctly, there is hardly a procedure for schutting the dm thing off every single time without using a faultmate or computer?
I just don't like the thing to go on automatically every single time. Here in Belgium there arn't much mountains
Any people that had problems in winter time like...freezing schoes or cables?
Reagards,
Glenn

Glenn,
I also drive a manual.
My EPB automatically applies when I remove the key from the ignition EXCEPT when I hold down the EPB switch and remove the key at the same time (EPB Service Mode is required when servicing the rear brakes otherwise the discs will not come off easily).
If yours is not doing that there is something wrong somewhere. Good luck changing your rear discs next time they need doing (although I guess you could remove the fuse for that).
There may be a software update? Just a thought.

It doesn't work on my manual either. Found that out when I had a epb issue earlier in the year.

To answer the freezing up bit we experience -20deg c & on occasions lower and I have never had the hand brake or cables on any land rover freeze.though I have had the pads freeze solid in the carriers and that is mighty alarming!!!!
So unless you park in a metre of water down there in the low country I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks Sputnix...
It's a bit of a relief to hear that.
I also thought that the EPB motor/system wears a lot by switchting so much off and on and off and on ........
Regards from the rainy Belgium.

The EPB is probably more likely to seize up or cause you issues if it is not used on a regular basis.

Certainly the shoe fulcrum point where the cable pulls them on can be a problem especially at the release combined with weak rusting return springs also this would affect any adjustment made and on occasions cause the module scream we hear so much about.
Winter well nice talking to you.
