Hi Gary,

Slightly off this topic but I'm interested in your Simpson experience. Which route did you take and what sort of mileage did you get en route? How much fuel did you carry?

Scott

Hi Gary,

Which Simpson track did you take? What was your fuel consumption in the desert? I am planning a double crossing (QAA, French, WAA going west and rig road and K1 back to the Warburton) in July and would like to cut back on the amount of fuel I need to carry.

Sorry about the delay in replying, been to Sydney and Brisbane for a month. We did the Rig road trip. I had 3 jerries of fuel and 3 of water with fridge etc. From Oodnadatta to Birdsville I averaged 14.1ltr/100km, the Td5 on the trip 14.2.

Just got back yesterday, 5000 kms in 10 days. The D3 was fully loaded, 2 frigs, 1 spare wheel on top and 2 jerry cans. Used 21.5 l/100 kms from Birdsville to Mt Dare (QAA, French, WAA) and 15.8 l/100 kms from Mt Dare to Mungarannie via the Rig, K1 and Warburton. We were moving hard.
My only problem was with the soft suspension and not being able to run at extended mode at speeds above 50 kph, suffered some damage to the exhaust pipes and spare tyre underneath. Will post photos later.
I will not travel out there again until I can get a suspension upgrade.

What does the rear wheel carrier look like, any pics?
Pricing?

Just fitted Mantec underbody protection on my baby.
It seems that the the Ausie plate is in two pieces?

Desert Traveller,
We on our recent trip Birdsville, QAA, Hay River in the NT part of the Simpson averaged between 19 and 20 lti/100 on the hard going, We had no underbody damage because of the shortened hight sensor rods, this gave us off road hight as our standard hight, this worked very well with no ill effect.
