D4.5 wing mirrors

Do these need resistors fitting to them to stop the indicators flashing too fast inside the car like the D4 rear lights do?

No mine are fine without. The rear lights do if you upgrade those

Strange! My rears have resistors fitted.

Did you manage to get them to fold in?

Is yours a D3?

I’ve a feeling the D3 may need them but not the D4. I have late D4 mirrors on my 2012 RRS and everything worked as it should however earlier RRS (ala Disco 3) have had issues.

How did you wire the indicators in? That can make a difference.

My friend fitted/wired them up for me so I’m not too sure! Might take them back off and have a look.

My passenger door no longer locks since he fitted them too! Sad

Just see if he wired the positive wire from the door indicator to the mirror indicator only. He doesn’t need to earth it from the door indicator to the mirror as the mirrors have a joint earth within the mirror loom and this runs to the door module (well it does on the MY10 to 16). If he earthed any other way then you may/will get issues.

I had to have the passenger door card off earlier to fix the door handle (don’t ask!) and also looked at the wiring to the new mirror whilst I had the chance. Can anyone spot any obvious problems which might explain the lack of powerfold, dipping and fast indicator flash;

I’ll be honest and say it looks a bit rough. Has he left the pin on the indicator wire? Whats the other bit of wire with the tape on? I don’t have access to my wiring diagrams till tomorrow but it’s not as easy as just pull pin 1 out of the black plug and put it in pin 1 of the grey plug.

Do these mirrors have the powerfold function, reverse dip and memory? My plugs had 16 wires in each I think.

I’m not too sure to be honest, might just start again with them myself!

As far as I’m aware the mirrors do fold, my mate said they were folding in and out on the switch inside the car and then just stopped working?!

Nightmare!

I don’t have complete access to my files at the moment and unless your mate has a photo or diagram where each mirror wire colour came from it could be difficult to check with out looking at my car but here’s a little to start.

All pins are from locations in the original black plug

1 - Mirror X direction
2 - Mirror X/Y
3 - Mirror Y/Foldout
4 - Mirror Fold in
5 - Heated Mirror
6 - Mirror common earth
7 - Sensor supply
8 - Sensor Y
9 - Sensor X
10 - Sensor Ground
11 - Approach light (puddle lamp)
12 - Indicator Pos (Ground is through common ground pin 6)

So with the exception of pin 12 as it looks like that’s connected direct to a feed from the door repeater you should have 11 pins. Could these mirrors be the basic commercial ones without powerfold etc?

Thanks for that Thumbs Up

I guess they could be basic mirrors, they were powerfolding on my car apparently before they stopped though....

I’ve just found a pair of Disco 3 folding mirrors on eBay and they show a second set of plugs which match the second plug in your photo. I’m pretty sure that will be your powerfold connection. Have you still got your original mirrors? I bet they have a second connector on them with 4 wires in.

I’ve still got them and I’m pretty sure the second grey plug is still on them....

Ok, that sound like that’s the connector for the position sensors.

If you can look at your door wiring for

Pin 6 - should be yellow/blue which is fold out
Pin 7 - should be yellow/red which is fold in

They should have corresponding wires in the mirror connector.
