Battery change crisis -can you help?

I have no idea how old the battery is on my vehicle so thought best to put a new one on for the winter.
I had the Christmas tree effect on the dash the other day, a hard reset cured it and after a night on the Ctek there have been no further issues... until I swapped out the battery for the new one this afternoon.

I put the new battery on (it was brand new and fully charged). I again got the full Christmas tree dash effect (temp gauge needle at the top, suspension lowered, park brake error, etc.). I did a hard reset to see if that would cure it but no.

I have then put the old battery back on and I get exactly the same result, again even after trying a hard reset. Both batteries go straight to stage 4 when they go on the Ctek.

I'm going to be pretty stuck in the morning as things are.

Can any of you offer something for me to try?

Cheers,

Darren

Have you changed the brake lights lately?

Nope, but I did renew the brake light switch a couple of months ago just as a precaution.

Ok just a thought.

Someone who knows wtf they are talking about should be along soon.

Check your brake lights though as these can cause a hissy fit with the D3.

Best of luck.

Thumbs Up

I'd put the old switch back in if you've still got it...

I don't still have the old switch unfortunately... I don't get why the battery change could trigger this and it possibly be related to the brake lights or bake light switch???

Maybe changing the battery has disturbed the plugs onto the transmission ecu behind the battery. The plug is prone to water ingress, and corrosion. Perhaps you moving things about has broken a contact in there? Worth a look.

Thanks Gareth, it is a snug fit. I'll have to leave it until tomorrow and then I'll take a look.

Cheers,

Battery problems

Hi
I would check the earth straps to make sure you havnt slackened them when moving cables around the easy solution..worst scenario possible alternator on the way out
Have you also checked that the terminals are tight enough on the battery.
If you have a multimeter you can check to see if the alternator is charging between 14.2 and 15 .2 if not your alternator is on the way out.
Hope the above helps
Cheers

I have to agree with Gareth. Very easy to catch the wiring when lifting the battery out and in Thumbs Up

Well...

I couldn't find anything amiss myself so the vehicle was Green Flagged to LRS Engineering yesterday. They reset the computers and reprogrammed the BCM, they also put the new battery back on. All appeared back to normal. They put it down to the car having a hissy fit when the batteries were swapped over. Rolling Eyes

I picked it up this morning but on the way home it went into limp mode with fully illuminated dashboard! I have taken it straight back to them (I daren't stop in case it wouldn't restart however it did return to normal and start when I got it into their yard). They are going to take another look when they can fit it in over the next couple of days but the genearal opinion was that 'something has fried'.

Have you measured the voltage that is available to the car either multimeter or a voltmeter into the cig socket ? Sounds to me who knows nothing about this subject like the volts are too low ?

Are the battery terminals clean and tight ?
