Suspension dropped 4cm after 4 days? Is this normal?

I spent Saturday afternoon checking all my suspension for leaks, as the front would drop loads over night.

After not finding any leaks at all, I replaced the front valve block, and this seemed to fix it, as over night it didn't drop a single bit.

But as I only use my disco at weekends and an odd evening, after 4 days of not driving it and checking it each night just to see, I have found between the 3rd and 4th day it has dropped 4cm.

Is this a normal thing if it's leveling it's self in the night? As my drive is slightly down hill, or should it not drop at all?

Cheers

Dan

Mine self levels on sloping drive.

Can you find flat area to test before fearing the worst.

Suppose you could park it the other way round on the slope and see what happens then

Something so simple and I didn't think of it haha, I will try driving onto the drive instead of reversing and see what happens!

Got my hopes up when all was fine after first night.

@DK44; please keep us updated. I have the same symptoms, but didn't replace the valve block yet. Next week my Disco will be going to the dealer for this issue.

My IIDtool also reports the following errors;

Instrument Pack

U0132-87 (28) Lost communication with ride level control module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
U0159-87 (2E) Lost communication with parking assist control module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
Suspension

C1A13-64 (2E) Pressure does not decrease when venting gallery - Algorithm based failure - signal plausibility failure

Do you have the ability to get a reading about these sort of errors from your car?

regards,

Pedro

My D3 would lower considerably over a period of 4 days ( parked on horizontal garage floor ). Overnight the front would drop +/- 30mm and rear +/- 10mm.
Removal of fuse 3 when parking for the night, I found LH front down 20mm with all others as parked.
Checked LH cyl and pipework for leaks - none found. This meant front Valveblock suspect with internal leak - hence all affected when car "self levels" during the night.
Stripped front Valveblock, cleaned all 'o' rings and block parts - rebuilt and all is now well.
Used Youtube "How to " on Valveblock strip - very good and clear instructions.
If care taken no need for any new parts to be bought.

I have changed the valve block for a new one, and it seemed to fix it.

It's an odd one though, as it only dropped yesterday? I measured it this time yesterday, so 24hrs later it hasn't dropped a single bit? I don't get it Laughing

Hi MARTIN, worst part of the job is removing all the LR plastic clips to get wheel inner cover off to gain access to the Valveblock - broke some of these clips - LR want the earth for replacements.

@SADISCOBOB; do you have an idea where the front valve blockis situated on a left handsteering Discovery 3?

I think i will take a moment to clean the valve block. My suspension dropped for 10 mm in about 12 hours on the front (both left and right) with the fuse 3 removed. Rear suspension dropped on the right and left side approx 1mm.

Think it would still be under inner wheel cover, at front, RH side wheel arch.

I think mine is also doing this (D4).

it raises on start up, so is there any immediate problem or a a symptom of something worse in the future?

CHOPCAT, My D3 had been subject to general problem of suspension lowering for a long period. I had no 'error' messages until recently when I got "suspension raising slowly" and " will continue raising when temp lowers", so thought it was time to sort out. This I did as above but think you must diagnose the problem with yours . Don't forget that the D3/D4 suspension tries to level itself during parking period and if you park on unlevel ground you will get a loss of height without any problem with the car.
