Rack for my LR3, Baja, OEM, Voyager, or ProSpeed
Heya, I have a 05 LR3 in Adriatic Blue. Im looking to add a expedition style rack to it. Id like this to be a fairly streamline rack, that fits the profile of the vehicle, fairly versatile, and can easily have driving lamps mounted upon.
From what I can find, these are the most popular rack choices.
Baja Rack
http://www.bajarack.com/br-lr-lr3-1-0
Im not a fan of the logo on the front of the wind visor, and Im not sure about how easy it is to mount lights on this.
Seems to be very versatile. Have heard great things about it.
Land Rover OEM/G4 Rack
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LAND-ROVER-EXPEDITION-ROOF-RACK-ASSY-LR3-LR4-CAB500021PMA-OEM-/160812346289
I cant find this rack for sale anywhere except for eBay, and once in a while, on sale on a forum by a private user.
I hear these are very heavy and bulky, but I do like the looks of this one.
WELL over priced.
ProSpeed Rack

Not too pricey, not loud, doesnt affect MPG, light mount coming in future
Located in England, shipping would be very expensive for me
Voyager Rack
http://www.voyagerracks.com/DIIIVR.htm
http://landroverforums.com/forum/appearanc...cks-47079/
Located in Florida, fast shipping to me, reasonably priced, free ladder ( I think?), discounts offered, streamline, light mountable
Reports of rust, poor weld quality.
What would you guys choose if you were in my position?
Id like something for just all around use, nothing specific.
I am located in America(NYC specifically) so international shipping is another factor. Id prefer to get something stateside, but if I cant agree with myself on something, Il look to the other continents.
ALSO:
My LR3 has the glass roof, and the fin antenna on the roof.
Id like the sunroof to be operational after the rack install, but this isnt a requirement.

Prospeed would let you use all the features safely with no obstruction but no idea about shipping and all
Why would you need roof rack in NYC???

Im not a big fan of the wind visor on the front of the ProSpeed.
And well...
I want to use it for added cargo space when I need it. For like extended trips and all.
Also to handle off road accessories like a jack and all.
And they look cool.
Dont judge me? haha.
ALSO: If I bought one by myself, without doing a group buy, to share the fees, the shipping would cost me 320GBP...

no judging here at all
the fairing on prospeed is the on purpose to streamline it and I have to say it works I have not noticed increase in consumption while using it for over the year now and one more good thing is no added noise while travelling fast say 80+ MPH
If you get one with the mesh floor you can strap safely anything to it and with number of accessories available you can pretty much permanently carry crap loads on it.
Living in US you would definitely find it useful as there is so many places to go and venture off the road
good hunting

Yeah, what type of floor does the glass roof model have? Is that the mesh?

I also like the voyage but the money I paid for Prospeed is not to be beaten by no other design

If I ended up getting the ProSpeed, I believe I would end up paying more for that than Voyager.
If it were the other way around, the ProSpeed would be a better contender.

there was prospeed here on the forum for sale not so long ago
I got mine half the price off the forum as well unless you sensitive to second hand I would look out for used
I like the fact that voyager comes in so many variations but it looks it would defo increase wind noise and MPG might drop although very similar design
the thing about Prospeed is that it sits very very close to roof line ...
good luck finding one
