PDC difficult to engage...

Can't seem to find an answer to this one in a search...

My rear PDC won't always engage when I select reverse (MY05, manual) the first time but if I put it back in neutral then firmly select reverse again it starts up.

Is there a switch or sensor that I need to swap out or clean perhaps?

Cheers,

Darren

It's possible that your gearbox XY sensor has lost calibration. If your reversing lights also don't come on, and the gear display on the dash is slow to display, then this is the most likely cause.

Solution here: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic46472.html

Normally, you would expect to see the amber park brake light come on as well in this scenario, though.

Cheers Steve - I'll check the reverse lights but I'm pretty sure they are fine, I have Advanced Factors LEDs in there so you know when they are on! Also, there is no delay in the 'R' appearing in the selector display on the dash.

Any other suggestions out there?

Cheers,

Darren

Anybody? Question

Does the rear PDC engage with the reversing lights or does it have it's own contact that is failing to be made without the gear stick being put into reverse firmly?

Any help appreciated.

Mine also does this,
I think patience is the order of the day, when I select reverse I wait for the mirrors to finish moving, let the EPB off and all is good, if I just put it into reverse and release the EPB straight away it tends not to activate the PDC every time.

Spoke to Disco_Mikey about this and he reckons his does the same.

Hope this helps.

Mine does this all the time. I found that the solution is to pause in neutral instead of going straight from a forward gear to reverse.

My Auto does exactly the same. Would appear to potentially be a software issue, as the later models tend to be a bit quicker, and more reliable at coming on.

Do you have your clock on dash, or 3 flash etc enabled?

My Auto is the same, I find it helps to keep the footbrake on when selecting reverse.

Yes I do actually; dash clock, 3 flash and 4x4. Is this possibly a symptom of those upgrades then Mikey?

Cheers,

Darren

Was just a bit of guesswork, as mine was fine, until the BCM was updated for 3 flash, as has BrianT's ...

Mine hasn't always done it but I'm not sure when it started.

with x3 people might be more than a coincidence?

If it can't be fixed though I would rather keep the upgrades and put up with a temperamental PDC.

Bang on Brian, many thanks. I have now found it is not at all related to the firm second attempt, it was just that the system was ready by the second attempt.

I now do it once in an orderly fashion and it works every time. Thumbs Up

Cheers,

Darren
