Still not 100% but I'm starting to think it might possibly be the rear spoiler.
I can get my fingers inside the rear tailgate ( upper ) and it is dry but I reversed yesterday and a small amount of water appeared on the rear glass on the outside.
I think the rear spoiler is holding water but I'm still not certain. If it is, I can't understand how it got in there but I might drill a little drain hole to see what happens. Mods:

Well they are famed for retaining water, so it would not be too surprising.

I have today confirmed the water was in the rear spoiler.
I removed the black trim panel on the inside of the tailgate and fed a flexi pipe into the cavity in the spoiler. First suck found nothing but feeding the pipe in further and sucking again saw around half a litre of clean water removed from the cavity.
Water can only get in during driving by being pushed up into the only cavity entrance on the panel that replaces the old high line brake light so this will be sealed up with more clear sealant than I had previously used and see if it stops it filling up again. Mods:
