Reverse camera not working

Had a search but still unsure,

Bought a reverse camera off the bay ( guy is selling lots of them and excellent feed back) followed instructions

1. Connected camera live to reverse light live,
2. Connected camera neg to chassis
3. Ran video cable to sat nav
4. Connected video cable to fakra lead ( bought from D3 shop)
5. Plugged fakra lead into yellow/tan socket
6. Used secret code on sat nav but showing no input on all three inputs, tried reverse but still no joy

So what am I missing, does the sat nav need a fault mate update? I have power to the camera.

Any help would be appreciated Thumbs Up

In middle of doing this - new baby so have to do what I can when!
I had same when first did it but probed worked ok by plugging in camera to proper power supply from a freeview box so could see it was working.

Also took camera in to TV and proved that way too.

my issue was Fakra cable not quite in. Even thou car config file says no camera it showed all ok so should be ok for you as well I would imagine.

Cheers will check the farka cable again tomorrow Thumbs Up

I noticed that the power lead was not long enough so had to extend the power cable from the camera to the reverse light, also found it better to remove the tailgate handle then you can feed the cable in better, even managed to get the video cable through the rubber sleeve that runs at the top of the tailgate and into the body, pulled quite a few panels off too to make feeding the cables easier.

if you need any more info give me a pm.

Thanks - one thing did notice, polarity on cables was important. Camera only worked one way when I tested.

Checked the polarity even swapped the camera but still no joy, it says on the nav screen no inputs so not too sure what else to check.

Any more ideas please

Put mine in today and all worked. Did think that it would show on the diag screen when you click the input test and it shows the three boxes (companion cam, reverse and tv) but it didn't. Found I had to press on the reverse cam for ot to work (fakra plugged in to tan socket on back of sat nav).

Also found important to have camera powered before selecting input to show as sometimes wouldn't show when powered camera. I took power from the purple cable that goes to the boot area cigarette lighter socket.

Did also find the power plig/socket (red) that was on camera was big dodgy at times so snipped it off and extended cable using connector blocks.

Hope you get it working!
Mat

Ah, so you saying that you have permanent power feed to the camera from the rear 12v socket, I connected the positive to the reverse light feed that way it only comes on when reverse is selected.

I extended my positive cable due to it not been long enough, joined the supplied extension cable camera then used inline crimps to extend the cable to the reverse light.

Bow down Bow down Bow down

I have to select the companion button not the rear camera Embarassed

Pic in my gallery to show quality.

Also have more photos of the installation if anyone is interested, going to contact Martin to see if there is a write up as thinking about doing one.

Thumbs Up
