Hi All,
Only just joined a week or so back so may make few mistakes to start with!
I also get a Roaring Noise from Cold on my TDV6 SE Auto but this goes quite quickly after warming up, 1/2 mile max. The car was registed 1st July 2005.
Wonderful site and living just 2 miles from the factory means I get a lot of contact with LR Staff. Any intersting stuff I'll post up, like Toyota making an offer for Jaguar ....... Ford engines in a Toyota? What next?

Just found this site... tremendous and slightly worrying at the same time, got my disco3 in september, been in the garage 3 times and waiting for a part... The roaring noise is the compressor recompressing the air receiver which probably has a leak (I am told the burst valve?? is common!)... LR have recently changed the compressor/air receivers... I kind of miss the roar...!!

Hi & welcome
I think you will fined the compressor is not the loud noise as it is quite quiet when running!
But is the cooling fan! Discovery 3 TDV6 SE

Nick, does the cooling fan come on to cool the compressor then? My early morning roar (so to speak) has now gone with my supension fix my neighbour said she like being woken up by my roar.. BTW are you aware of a thread relating to a knocking coming through the steering?

It is the engine cooling fan that makes the noise!

Not so common...

I have this too - but I drive the V8 petrol.
In Canada, yes it is cold, etc. Yes it roars, and then within a few blocks it calms down. Assume this is normal... yes?

My RRS TDV6 makes a roar when first started up in the morning. It sounds great. I wish it made this noise all the time. It sounds like a V12 petrol! Matt

Mine does this too - actually makes it sound good - but is gone by the time I get 100 yards up the road! Steve N | 2006 TDV6 S Auto in Buckingham Blue | Member of the top ten club | Am I online?

I find that if you back off the throttle a little & just let the car cruise at a low throttle setting for the first hundred yards or so, it will calm down & disappear.
Not always possible I know, especially if you’re pulling out into traffic immediately after setting off. But in my case I’ve to go up a ½ mile lane before hitting traffic, so it works for me
