Catweasel- If you take a V8 for a spin you'll see why it needs those big discs!! 2.7 tonne accellerating like that! Still has me smiling!!

Newer 18" SE type wheels

Appears to be two sizes of wheel.
The larger ones would give the D3 one hell of a lift. could be a bu ger to change though. Getting there is half the fun

I was thinking of an option you could try but obviously the V8 is extra special dont leave a witness.....................put your foot down.

Sorry I didnt mean to be flippant!
I assume ( I'm not a technician!!) that as the V8 has a top speed of 200kmh and accelerates from 0-100kmh in 8.6 secs, Landrover decided wisely to fit brakes that were capable of stopping the vehicles safely from that speed or velocity!
Off the top of my head- kinetic energy increases with the square of the velocity (E = 1/2·m·v2 relationship). This means that if the speed of a vehicle doubles, it has four times as much energy. The brakes must therefore dissipate four times as much energy to stop it.
The V8 is no more extra special than any other D3, if I was still in the UK I would be driving a Diesel, there is no diesel option here. I really would apprteciate any advice or options concerning this issue; I was simply trying to answer your question, unfortunately I obviously worded my answer wrong.
Having spoken to LR UAE they inform me that changing from 338mm V8 Discs to the 2.7 Diesel 317mm discs would invalidate the vehicle warranty/Insurance and be very dangerous (Once again to quote my wife ''That extra inch obviously makes all the differance'' . So unfortunately that is not an option.
Best Wishes CP

You should think about joining the Abu Dhabi 4x4 club - www.ad4x4.com
They organise desert drives every weekend and it is a great bunch of people.
Check out the info below for tyres in AD - I searched for months to find this fitment centre.
I just fitted Pirelli Zero 285x55x18 yesterday, so far no problems on the road, and will head into the desert on the weekend and let you all know how these wider tyres perform in the sand. The desert sand is really treacherous at the moment, and there are places where it is like talcum powder!
The whole secret to getting traction in the desert is getting that tyre pressure down to around 1 bar. I used to run my 255x60x18 at 1 bar all day in the desert with absolutely no problems.
Run Sand setting, low range, DSC OFF - use the manual shift... Keep the revs down (run a gear higher) and only kick down a gear when you need a squirt of horsepower to crest a big dune. This will helpfuel consumption and keep the temperature down.
See you in the desert!
"The main dealer for Pirelli and Nito tires in Abu Dhabi (SupercarZ, Musafa) has offered a discount of 20% on all tires to AD4X4 members. (All you need is a AD4X4 sticker on your car). For example - a Nito 33 x 15 x 12.5 Dune Grabler tire after discount will cost AED 650-00. The offer is also for wheel balancing @ AED 160-00 for balancing a set of four 31s, 32s and 33s. They are located close to the Porche service centre. For more information please contact Badri Roushdi @ Mobile 050 5516640. As we have been (ripped off) paying up to AED600-00 for wheel balancing at National Tires, this is a great offer with great service!"

Has anyone tried the new Pirelli Scorpion ATR 255/55-19? Would be very curious to find out about its performance, particularly on sand.
Squirrel - the first time I drove to Abu Dhabi to join a trip with AD4x4 my Land Rover overheated and died (this happened BEFORE going offroad, right when I got there...)! It's taken me a month and a half to get a new engine
And of course, I had to listen to everyone telling me that Land Rovers are no good...

German magazin test results on sand
Continental Cross Contact AT All terrain 3096 points
Goodyear Wrangler MTR Mud 2856
Vredestein Ultratrac Road 2829
Cooper Discoverer STR ? 2790
Pirelli scorpion ATR All terrain 2716
Continental was second to the MTRs in mud !
The pirelli won the overall competition on all surfaces. Object was to compare compromise tyres with specialised winners (Vredestein on road, Wrangler MTR off road). Red Indian wisdom: If you must jump canyon, dont do it in 2 steps.
