I have an LR3 V8 Petrol The factory rims are 18x9. I run Nitto Terra Grapplers 285x60x18, they are great. They also make "dune grapplers" Which have 3 ply sidewalls which are not enough for me, very aggressive sidewalls for sand though. I don't know the specifications on the Dune Grapplers, but the Terra Grapplers are 10 ply. Fill them with Nitrogen, and you won't have to worry about ambient temperature changes. The only problem is it will cost you 5k for your own Nitrogen compressor if you plan to Air Down/Up... All in all, I normally destroy at least 2 tires per set of 4 i buy before they wear out. I'm on my 2nd set of Nitto's and have had NO FLATS, sidewall damage, etc. I have not purchased a set of tires in in 15 years that I didn't at least rip a sidewall or two out on. No problems with these so far.

Er.....has anyone considered widening the track of an LR3 with spacers to fit wider rims, and thus spread the footprint further? Combination of wheel diameter plus wider rim would prevent contact with suspension links, discs etc and ought to make for better sand traction............ in theory.' '

I've fitted RRS 19"x9" rims with 3mm spacers, the handling and body roll are much better than before, will buy some 275/55 R19 pirelli tires later this week. '05 LR3 HSE V8 - Adriatic Blue - Larini Exhaust System - Lamp Guards - Dual battery system - Hidden 12k winch - Rasta Sump Guard

Q8.... is that 3mm or 30mm spacers? Did you manage to get the right load rating on the tyres for the LR3's requirements?

they are only 3mm, you'll need longer wheel studs for anything bigger than that, the load rating for both the 255/55 and 275/55 19" tires is 111, that's the minimum load rating for our D3/LR3. Interesting.........so the RR rims are 1" wider than LR3? Further up the thread, there are a few guys fitting 285x55 and even one 285x60 (although on 18"). Is it possible to get 285 x55 x 19s I wonder? ' '
Boots in 'odd' sizes are really, really difficult to source in Oman. UAE seems a bit better. ANyhting that'll fit Jeep, Nissan or Toyota standard sizes is routinely off the shelf, but anyhting else is like rocking horse poo! ' '

that's why I've bought the rrs wheels, they are wider and looks better than the original 19". the 275/55R19 tires are originally for the new mercedes G/GL class so you might have a chance in finding them in Oman '05 LR3 HSE V8 - Adriatic Blue - Larini Exhaust System - Lamp Guards - Dual battery system - Hidden 12k winch - Rasta Sump Guard

There must be some of those sizes and brands there, one of the guys posted pictures of their club in his gallery there, I found yesterday, and he had the Nitto's on his Jeep.
ok, Most people get rid of the 19" rims, there are too few tire choices for that rim size. So I have the 18" 10 spoke LR Rims V8 Petrol, which came from the stealer with 18". I am sure I can find the part # it also may depend on year.
I run 285x60x18 on them. The car is so much better, it should have come with them. These rims are very wide. I believe you could put wider tires on it. I notice you seem to tend to go down the a "55" which means the sidewall is shorter. I think you will be much happier with a taller sidewall. It is more common here, for people to replace rims with 14" rims and Giant tires..... I am happy with 285x60, tires that get to wide can also work against you.
Dune Grapplers are not available in 19"
18" are available in 285x60x18 and 305x60x18, that is what I would use. They also come in 20"
Terry Grapplers (a great all round tire) These come in 17" and 20" as well. These are great because they are very durable and have a good tread for everything but mud. (they also make a mud tire).
18" I suggest 285x60x18

Hi Guys, i had the same problem with the car in the sand, started looking to replace the stock tyres around 40k. Came across this blog, http://blog.nextstepdesigns.com/?p=46 and decided to buy the NITTO'S. Great choice in the sand, if you put beads on the wheels you could lower tyres to 10psi no problem. Purchase them from yellow hat.

Tyres in Oman are generally restricted to those sizes fitting popular 4x4 cars here - Toyota, Nissan, etc. Much harder to find tyres to fit rim sizes that aren't in demand for those makes. 19" wheel diameter sure does limit you, but there are plenty of RRSs here and Porsche Cayennes.
If all else faisl a trip up to UAE should produce a wider choice.
Brocky - let me know how oyu get on with your choice? HAve already sourced some 19" RRS rims and can get the spacers made up here without a problem. Tyres......hmmm, see above!

The spacers are not necessary, I used them just for a better look and handling '05 LR3 HSE V8 - Adriatic Blue - Larini Exhaust System - Lamp Guards - Dual battery system - Hidden 12k winch - Rasta Sump Guard
