The new Driver Information System Handbook (on the GTR website) states that gear selected information is as follows;
(copied from the manual - hope LR dont mind)
The display also indicates the current transmission selection. For example, if reverse gear is selected, then ‘R’ is displayed on the gearbox data icon.
Note: For vehicles with manual transmission, the display will show R N 1 2 3 4 5 6.
For vehicles with automatic transmission, the display will show P R D N
Looks like a case of incorrect first manual.....

Could be!! - another explanation could be that GTR has been updated to conform with the omission? Indeed LR CS have now admitted that it "has been omitted frm the vehicle" - note "omitted" not "was not intended to be there"

Had the same problem with mine after a software update , twice actually. At the same time a warning/fault appeared for the park brakeThe service rep I spoke to says it has happened to a few vehicles sold from his dealership but managed to fix mine and to date no probs.

I had this fault with mine and the warning message 'Park Brake Fault' I had the Land Rover Assist guy out who fixed the problem, it was a computer software issue where the memory had 'lost' the gear settings. I had to re-train the memory to recognise the gears by driving for 10 seconds in each gear inc reverse. (A useful tip was to do it in low ratio on a quite road) Worked a treat, he plugged in his laptop and diagnosed the fault. Cleared it from memory and touch wood has not reoccurred.

Mine went at least a couple of times after my post above.I used the " gear retrain" method many times but it only solved it temporarily.Replaced gear sensor module and a transfer case module and so far so good. Don't take life me too seriously ..... it's I'm not permanent

Sounds very like the problems I've ben having as well.
Just spoken to the dealer for the umpteenth time and finally got through to someone with greasy hands who was getting a bit frustrated with mine. He said - "Yours is the one that comes in with an EPB fault indication, then loss of gear indication and reversing lights isn't it?". After the mechanic had "sorted it" on the last visit he "took it for a blast" and thinks to himself "This clutch feels wrong", so has a prod and poke to see what's what. The self adjuster has become a self non-adjuster, so needs to be looked at. I understand he's ordered all the bits he can (more than he expects to use) so they can get it all on out and do it all rather than have me keep on coming back every few weeks..... Rob Smith
