How much can you get for a kidney? |
|
Looking at selling some vital organs I think.
Had the D3 in for a bit of a health check today as well as getting some bits done.
So far apparently I need:
Front Lower Arms both sides
Track Rod - Inner
Rear Near Side upper suspension arm
5 x New Tyres
Gearbox Leak needs investigating
Steering Rack leaking oil - needs investigating
Aux belt showing signs of fatigue
Anti Roll Bar bushes
Ok the front arms and tyres I knew about, but plus the service that it needs anyway and the 4 wheel alignment it will need after, and the fact that the tax is due next month I really am suddenly feeling rather poor.

To be fair, all of the suspension related components are to be expected on a D3 of that age.
I would do the lower front arms, upper rear arms (both sides), and inner track rods all at the same time. Then your suspension is pretty much sorted and you only have to get a 4 wheel alignment done once.
Anti-roll bar bushes do not affect the wheel alignment but are quite a simple job to do. Aux belt is also a 10 minute job. Can't help you on the gearbox leak.
I would question the steering rack; It's very easy to mistake oil from the bottom of the intercooler hose to be a leaking steering rack. Ideally, it all needs cleaning off with Gunk/brake cleaner/both and observing before you start replacing the rack. FYI, a new rack comes with new inner track rods already fitted so if you do end up replacing the rack, then you should hold off getting the inner track rods done.

Wow, sounds like you may need to flog both kidneys! A shapely pair of legs is one thing but a nice bum is not to be sniffed at.

Just back from picking her up.
Also a P0405-00 and P1400A-00 error on there so that means EGR's will probably need Blanking off too.
What a day!
Thing is as soon as I got out of the Mrs car into my D3 I realised why we pay the money. Even though it's 8 years old it's still miles better to drive than most other cars on the road and capable of doing anything I could ever need of it.
However I think I'll be investigating how much I can get for One Lung, One Kidney and seeing what the going rate is down at the local sperm bank to try and pay for it all!

Current estimate is £2035 - that's excluding looking into the Gearbox and Steering Rack Leaks.
Individually the prices are excellent, but all at once it's a bit of a hit.

Look on the bright side.....I don't know the going rate for a kidney, but I'm pretty sure there would be enough left over for a re-map also "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

It's quite scary when you add up the costs.
I've just roughly totted up in my head £3500 in the last year

Is this a health check from a Str@stones or a similar main dealer ? if so i would get someone else to give it the once over. From personal experience 90% of what they state isnt true or urgently required James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

Nope this is a decent local Indie, I know they aren't ripping me off. Sadly it's all just appeared to need doing at the same time

Ours are a similar age and i too have had to just do lower arms, tie rods etc etc. WD paid out for most of it luckily.
On the positive side once this is all done you should be sorted for a while !!! James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.
