Apologies Robbo but I've got very mixed feelings about this sort of upgrade. Don't get me wrong, it looks very nice indeed but on the face of it I think what you end up with is, well............ a mongrel.
Subtly changes and upgrades, I understand, no problems there but to totally transform your vehicle into something that it just isn't, in my mind, leaves you with something that is no longer what it actually is. It looks like one thing but it's actually an imposter, a great pretender, or a fake if you like.
As a fellow D3 owner, I fully appreciate the hard work and money that has gone in to this incredible conversion but deep down, I know, it's just a humble old D3 masquerading as something else.
I kind of liken it to a kit car ( I know it isn't ) that looks like a Ferrari but in actual fact it's really a 1995 Ford Escort.
It's always going to be a very specialised vehicle because of the complete and total change and because of that it's always going to be pitched at a very slender area of the resale market and that will make it difficult to sell on IMO. Because of that you're looking for a very specific buyer which will mean trying to
get back your vast investment will undoubtedly prove tricky and it could even prove difficult to sell.
Are you trying to sell your car or just curious to its value now it's complete?Mods:

Hi Narpy,
no not trying to sell her, infact away to do some more mods for myself and write ups for the forum to show just what can be done to a clean D3 to bring it up to date with alot less than the price tag of a 6-10 year younger a motor.
If my twin turbo mod of retro fit original D4 second turbo works, it will prove that this is all Land rover did whilst updating the engine/bus control system to new tech at the same time.
There is plenty of good reliable boost controllers that tap into the existing ECU for a fraction of the cost to get the benifits of the mid to upper range torque offered by the D4 3.0lt, lets face it 300cc does not make a diffrence, its the second turbo that is rated for the hight spin range that gives the pull.
So with a car in mint condition, with nothing owed, why trade to an unknown motor when I can tweak this to get the condition and improved response on it for less than a grand?
yes it will not be a stock motor, but looking and driving like a new motor with low tax bracket, what is the incetive to change....
each to their own, agree some would be put off, but as most parts are OEM Land rover its as stock a conversion as possible, bar a couple of management systems.
thus even my dealer has been impressed with the car and detail gone into it.
No I will not get the money put into it all back, thats not the point, its something I enjoy so that worth every penny invested. FFRR SC 4.2
Looks superb love it
BUT .. I agree with Narpy it is still a D3. The work you have had done makes the Disco look like it should have been. I know everyone else is thinking this so I might as we'll ask ? How much did it all cost to make it look so nice D3 HSE

I have managed to do inside and out for about £4.5K, with double paint jobs as did D4 2010 for 3 months then got the chance of first B4 parts and took it, but the front parts were almost full retain at that time frame as bought from production line stock....
not much considering the amount work done and the headlights and mirrors alone are over 2KFFRR SC 4.2

I'm impressed too, nobody can fault the hard work and dedication but for me, it's the end product and saleability of it that causes me concern.
I think with subtle mods and upgrades, they're always reversible whereas a total transformation is somewhat final, there's no going back.Mods:

To be fair though and spending a little time searching for parts ....
If your prepared to repair damaged parts and then re spraying to your colour D3
I enjoy making her look nice..... as it makes you smile.... and can actually cost next to nothing with buying and selling .....
I'll cost mine up soon but although not the 'new' look will still be a great improvement and I think I'll break even
With 4 kids etc etc
I could never afford a D4 so its a bit of fun ....D4 Front upgrade/cut back wings n things 'taking a long time but getting there'.
D4 rear upgrade - Narpys helped with that bit
Flack for problem solving and D4 Bluetooth Install/ D4 Heated Steering wheel with Flappy paddles n BBS enabling kit
Disco Mikeys work - Serviced, EGR blanking and 4x4 software upgrade, 3 flash indicators.
B.A.S - FBHIC. Uncle Rays spare wheel protector. Beanie Silver Black badges.
While I get the "it's still a D3" argument, there is no doubt that you have done a stunning job, plus I still think Cairns is THE best colour!
My D3 is now the property of Mrs Do$h with 130,000 miles on it. It needs a new Torque Converter soon, but having spent the £££ on new shocks and airbags, it's worth it.
Adding up the replace and repair costs, it's still substantially less than buying a D4, plus there's the emotional tie. In the past I was firmly in the "ah bless, he can't afford a real one" camp, but the work you have done goes far beyond the usual makeover.
I'm about to embark on a totally illogical makeover of a facelift Freelander 1. Some (many?) will laugh, but there's something about modifying and improving these cars that just ticks a box for me.
All power to your elbow Robbo, I shall be watching developments with interest
AlI know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Cheers Al,
You obvious get the fun factor of getting the looks and power of a 2014 car for only several hundred pounds against a choking tens of thousands, if you know the car and all the bits what sense is there in changing it, plus you keep the lower tax bracket.
My A-plan insurance where advised I would be either fitting a 3.0Lt or second turbo at outset, and were very happy, they have pics of the car it is now to ensure valuation is accurate at 17K,
A big plus for them on the forum from me FFRR SC 4.2

Nicely done - you need the anti-slip mat on the top of the dash to break up the piano black gloss (I see it's a modified one not the factory fit piano black)
Personally I'd get rid of the blue LEDs as it's making it alls bit fussy - just my opinion.MY15 DIY Black Pack (Better than factory and half the price!)
