Alternator and boot lock :( |
|
Hi Gents
Well this weekend has been a joy
The boot lock has begun to play up and now the car sounds like someone has chucked a load of nail in the engine
The boot I'm sure is the actuator as when you press the button you can hear it trying to unlock so no pt a wiring issue as others have experienced
£44 from land rover
The nail sound I'm also sure it's the alternator not had a chance to look but this yet but the noise is coming from the front left of the engine bay.
£501.22 from landrober that was a genuine typo error but well placed sorry i meant
I've seen Flacks helpfull guide to replace the bearings but I'm not sure what make alternator I have, also where to get the. Earrings from
I also believe I need a tool to remove the fan and the pulley
Any help on the inof would be much appreciated

Thanks for the reply
Just had a look under tn bonet and I can see metal shiny metal shavings and two ball bearings sat on the sub frame my guess is they should not be there, the belt is also sat on the edge of the belt tensioner so I'm hoping it just that and not the alternator.
Off to do some work now I'll investigate later
Fingers crossed its not the alternator

Sounds more likely to be your auxiliary belt tensioner to me, if the belt is sat on the edge of the tensioner:

They fail frequently and are a simple job to replace.

Also, I'm not sure Flack would advocate fitting earrings to your alternator. 2021 BMW iX3 Premier Edition in Carbon Black ⚡️🔌

A slight typo error sorry
I fancied a bit of cross dressing the secrets out
I'm all sorted didn't need alternator turned out to be the belt tensioner as I thought on close inspection
Thanks for everyone's input
Boot actuator also replaced all running/working as it should again
Regards to all
