Very bemused by what you said about the Touareg drove that in florida found it excellent 8 speed box yes it was v6 petrol but drove and pulled in all gears ride was fine so perhaps your car needed looking at because wife & i both felt it a nice car best so far we have driven in usa.

Good news on it getting fixed.

When you go to collect it, go over it with a fine tooth comb and maybe take someone along for a 2nd opinion.

Make sure it's 100% spot on before you sign over your courtesy car back.
I got stung with that years ago on an previous car and it was a nightmare to get the work done to the standard i was happy with.

Update:-

As I mentioned, on the 28th July, got confirmation that the repairs on my D3 had been authorised so was really chuffed.

Spoke to the repair agents about time scales etc, and was informed that it had to go into the local LR dealership for the investigation into the electrical issue and also for them to do the suspension fixes, steering and the 4 wheel alignment before the body work could be done.

The worst part of that is that it could not be booked into the LR until the 11th August!!!

They would not do any bodywork until that was done.

So, as far as I'm aware, my car is currently at LR, for god knows how long until they sort it and then god knows how many more weeks getting the body work done.

They've had the car longer than I have now Sad

One small silver lining is that they are putting 2 new tyres on the car when they replace the wheels. The insurance company have agreed to let me choose the tyres, so it will be 2 free Duratracs, and I will buy the other 2. That is a result as the Michelin Latitude that it currently has are not really what I wanted and I was going to buy 4 new Duratracs anyway Thumbs Up

Latest update.

Had a call from the independent assessors on Wednesday regarding the electrical issues that followed from the accident.

They informed me that the alternator and subsequently the battery had failed and in no way was it connected to the crash. After much arguing, with them and the insurance company, I had to accept that this was the case and they would not cover this cost in the repairs.

More annoyingly, it has taken them 2 weeks to reach that decision. Fuming isn't the word. It's been one hold up after another.

Anyway, we can now progress with the bodywork repairs I thought........No!!!

The body shop won't do them without the car running as it will take them too long to move it around and too many people involved. This I completely understand but it is still frustrating.

So, a call to my local garage, car collected and dropped off to them on Wednesday afternoon, got a call from them on Thursday lunchtime to tell me it was all done and was now back at the body shop.

Bloody great service (Town and Country in Leamington Spa) and the body shop reckon my car will be back with me next week.

It only cost £400 for the alternator, battery and labour so a great result there, but bloody annoyed I had to pay out anything.

I am so desperate to get the old girl back

Well, at long last, my beautiful D3 was returned to me on Friday looking stunning now all of the body work has been repaired.

I also took the opportunity to put some new boots on her and I am really looking forward to trying her out very soon.

Tyre of the discerning 05 Silver HSE owners... Whistle Whistle Thumbs Up

Hope you have checked it over fully and made sure they have refitted EVERY clip and screw.

My old 04 freeby came back with half the screws and clips missing.

I have had a very good look around and found nothing missing yet lol.

The only problem is that they have broken the gear selector. The top spins round and round now and the release button is jammed in. I have no idea what they have done to that but I'm arguing it with them at the moment that they have to pay to get it repaired.

It wasn't like that when it went in

Try a quick remove and refit as it may not have been pushed correctly home.

Takes seconds and cheaper than burning diesel.

Not sure what you mean there Robbie, it's an automatic and the whole top of the gear lever spins round. It should be solid.

The release button at the back of it should spring out but is jammed in.

The car did have an alternator fault and you could not move the lever without releasing the catch under the centre console. I wonder if someone had just given it a huge yank to move it into neutral or something
