Fuel Economy
I thought I would post my musings on this subject ...
My car is a D3 tdv6 2.7 2006 Auto with 93 k on the clock -
It appears to have a full LR service history and is generally in good working order (famous last words with a LR)
now we all know we cant buy these cars for economy reasons however I dont have a limitless monthly fuel budget as I am sure many of us dont -
so before my pruchase I based my budget sums on 23mpg given the feedback I have had and am pleasantly supprised that nearly 4k down the line since my purchasse I have seen an average real world recorded value of about 26.5 mpg with motorway cruising at 70 yields around 32 - 34mpg over 250 miles or so.
given my auto 1.8 astra estate only ever managed 37mpg on the motorway I reckon thats pretty damn good.
Figures that would make your average joe driver cry but given the potential I am shocked to find out that this massive lump of a car actually delivers on the economy when of all the cars I have owned never have to date -
To achive these figures I have been using supermarket fuel woth Millers addative at 100ml per 84 litre tank and I have been driving sensibly - not like a pansy but no heavy right footedness and using cruise control when up to speed.
(yes the jury is out on cruise control but I know which side of the fence I sit)
My EGR's are not yet blanked.
So thats all really - just a bit of praise for the (relative) efficiency of this 2.5 tonne beast.
other peoples experianced would be interesting to read.
Cheers
Alex

Auto - the average includes a fair few miles (over a thousand) towing twin axle 1.6 tonne caravan.

Dang......
At least I'm not the only one, I thought it would be a little better? Expected 30?!?
Getting about 27mpg, less if I stomp about town like a hoon.
Neighbour has had a remap by swift tuning over in chessington and got over 33mpg average on a trip to Poland and back. 5up, luggage and 3 Dogs! Not hanging about in Germany either. So think that's my next enhancement.

Economy??
I've had a few long journeys lately (+250 miles) and decided to see what difference a very gentle right foot and driving like a granny (55-60mph on motorway) would make.
Managed to get a computer display of 37.6 mpg so real world 35 mpg which is amazing but as soon as I got back in to town driving, it dropped to 31 mpg which I am still happy with.

I'm getting 22 mpg with the twin axle tin tent on the back - which is still better than I got running solo in the petrol V8 full fat!

My 18 mpg was 'real' (worked out from pump not dash computer) - did 1450+ in France, most of it on autoroutes and trying to keep at 55 - 60 mph. Unfortunately a lot of it seemed to be head wind with heavy rain and squally showers in-between so a lot of it was 5th gear work

I tend to ignore the dispaly - it seems to have a mind of its own - sometimes reading higher, sometimes reading lower.
All my calcs are from keeping a record of every fill up on the Fuelly App on my phone.

Recent 160 mile round trip with the caravan (weighing 1400kg there about's) the D3 averaged 26mpg, then a 280 mile round trip without the caravan was averaging 34mpg

Blimey - if only I could get somewhere close to that I'd be a really happy bunny. My 'normal' average is only 26 mpg (mostly shortish runs though).

As mines a 2007 it throws the engine light up now and then because I've blanked the egr's due to the drivers side sticking open... going to get it remapped next month to delete the egr's out of the ecu completely... we'll see what that adds to the mix but just by adding the blanking kit the mpg & performance increased by a fair bit Admin on Facebook Discovery 3 & 4 Ownersgroup
