Remove Instrument Cluster Bezel for cleaning
All,
I am removing the instrumentcluster in order to clean some white residue (dirt) around and on the inside bezel near the odometer reset button (I don't know what the dirt is, I bought it used!)
I can follow the instructions in this post. [url]http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic64579.html?highlight=remove+instrument+cluster [/url] to get at the instrumentcluster.
My question is, after I do that, can I pop off the bezel to clean the inside surface of the bezel? Or is the bezel sealed (glued?) to the instrumentcluster?

Four clips along the bottom that break very easy, and four along the top that don't but I don't know how anything can get inside unless it has been opened before.
Make sure the car goes to sleep and disconnect the battery before you start, lower and pull out the steering wheel as far as possible and don't move the gauge needles they are 's to get right.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

The "dirt" looks like it was a liquid, which got in and around and behind the odometer reset button, and then dried.

Removing the instrument cluster
Background:
My instrumentcluster had some dirt around the odometer reset button. It looked like some sort of fluid splashed on the instrumentcluster bezel and got under the bezel through the odometer reset button hole, and then dried. Annoying!
Here is how I removed and cleaned it.
Tools required:
Torx T27 bit
Torx T20 bit
Soap and water
Qtips
Lens cleaning cloth
Lens cleaning fluid
Plastic Dash panel removing tools
Ratcheting 1/4" wrench with bit holder
Bit driver
1. Remove the dash panel on the left of the steering wheel. Use your dash panel removal tools to pry the bottom of the panel away, and the panel should pop out. There are no screws holding the panel, just clips.
2. Remove the dash panel on the right of the steering wheel. This is the one that covers the cabin temperature sensor. Put your dash panel removal tool on the bottom edge of the panel and pop it out. There are no screws securing it, just clips.
3. Remove the kick panel below the steering wheel. Pay attention to these clips, they may fall out. Pry open from the top of the panel with your removal tool, not the bottom (where it sort of hinges).
4. Remove two black T20 screws at the bottom of the dash panel that surrounds the steering wheel

5. Remove the two silver T20 screws at the top of the dash panel that surrounds the steering wheel.

6. Move the steering wheel to it's lowest most position. Pull the steering wheel out to it furthest position.
7. This will allow you to pull the dash panel steering wheel surround you loosened in 4&5 towards you so you can access the instrumentcluster screws.
8. Remove the two T27 silver instrumentcluster screws. Mine were quite tight.
9. Pull out the instrumentcluster.
10. Lift the grey clip to release the instrumentcluster loom connector.
11. Move the instrumentcluster to clean workspace, covered with a soft cloth or towel.
12. Gently pry the bezel from the instrumentcluster by releasing the tabs from the instrumentcluster. There are four tabs on the top, and three tabs on the bottom. Be very careful, these plastic tabs break easily, take your time.
13. Carefully remove the bezel. Be careful not to touch the dial indicators.
14. Clean the dirt with soap and water using the qtips if necessary to get at the dirt around the odometer reset button hole.
15. Using the lens cleaning fluid and cloth, carefully clean the inside of the bezel. Some compressed air would be useful here to make sure there is no dust before you reassemble.
16. Reattach the bezel to the instrumentcluster.
17. Put the instrumentcluster back into the dash and screw in the two silver T27 screws
18. Attach the two silver T20 and two black lowers screws on the steering wheel surround.
19. If you lost the clips, in #3 or #2, now is a good time to look for them
20. Replace the lower kick panel
21. Replace the right side dash panel
22. Replace the left side dash panel
23. Clean the front of the instrumentcluster bezel.

Thank you for posting this. I just swapped out the cracked bezel on my '08 in less than an hour. I wouldn't have known where to start without the detailed description.
