Back to topic.....
I have eventually had a 'stone protection' cover made for my trailer.
See my gallery 'Trailer' section.
I hope it works but as an added protection, I will be having the VPS fitted to the rear door, sides & front of the D3 before the planned Bots trip in Sept. Ren Colyn

Looking at Rencolyn's pic's, would it not be a better idea to
stop the stones before they can get that high .
Meaning closer to the the tyre to close down the flight angle.
A possible over sized mud flap of sorts which could
be removeable.
Strange how a few "DOP'S" can let you see things in

Discoeast let me have some of those 'dops'!
I have been trying to do just that but have not come up with a workable solution. At speed the extended soft flaps blow up from the wind & have minimal effect. Will welcome any new ideas, thanks. Ren Colyn

I will realy recommend some protection for your Bots trip. During our trip I had to endure agonising sounds of stones being flown back to the rear window and door and at one stage waiting for that shattered window sound
I had brand new BFG's fitted before the trip and they like picking up fairly sized stones. End result was not that bad though - more scratches on doors from overgrown tracks. D3 S '07. Gemini dual battery system. Upgraded tow hitch. Mantec skid plate. Frontrunner rr. Tyredog tyre monitoring system.

I can really recommend VPS - after we got back from Bots / Zim / Nam in March the car was really badly scratched , epsecially from Zim - looks like we were the only people that still go there and the tracks were badly overgrown , every one bar 2 polished out no problem .

Rencolyn,
I just had a look around the back of my disco for possible
mud flap mounting points. The STD mounts are no good, but on
mine, there are some welded ones, with holes, on the outer
chassis rails @ the silencers.
Mine being a S model, I don't know if the others have it, perhaps
a quick look could tell us.
If so, I think we could be in business.
Input required:
1) Size mud flap required ( to protrude passed tyre side walls).
2) Type of material to be made from ( conveyor belting ).
3) Fixed or removable mounting.
4) Position preference.
5) Could be pulled off in extreme off roading.
Any other idea's, as I have not pulled a trailer for many Km's
on dirt roads.
Some food for thought.

Up against the existing flaps would be better. Use bolts with butterfly nuts and sping washers in vertical rows of three this will force the flap forwards and counter the tendency to liftup.
I modified my large ozi flaps with some extra rubber, mine are only slightly larger than the originals but I have noticed they thow up a lot less dust and gravel.

I am sure there is a law against the "defacing" of political leaders
Did I see that the template used for the mudflap actualy belongs to a certain political party as well as a picture of the "previous" leader D3 S '07. Gemini dual battery system. Upgraded tow hitch. Mantec skid plate. Frontrunner rr. Tyredog tyre monitoring system.

caverD3,
Thanks for your sound advice & nice mods.
I tend to lean more to the flap further back, IMHO, the stones are already
airborne and would have less chance of going underneath the flap.
When reversing there would less chance to trap it under the wheel, and
it must be removable. Tdi 130 conversion-full house, Disco 2, Freelander, D3 bullbar-spots-roof rack with spots-ladder-long range tank-swing out spare wheel carrier- upgraded tow bar-dash console-internal water tank-duel awnings-drawer system & T T.

Reversing with that size flaps could be fun.
Maybe a length of angle steel running accross the back bumper attached to the tow bar so it can be un-bolted. Attach a couple of large flaps to that, it coud be made a lot wider than the tyres. Similar to the full width ones on some B-double trucks on Oz.? Getting there is half the fun
