Actually just downloaded the Road Trip app - can be emailed to a csv file so you could just drag and drop into any existing spreadsheet if you wanted...

Looks good but I guess to be totally accurate you need to do full tank to full tank

That's good then - I'd tried a couple before I tried Fuely - and they both kept the info on the device Evil or Very Mad which is a rubbish way of doing things these days!

Fill to fill is normal and only accurate calculation. Can't imaging there are many peeps that don't and bung in, say, £50. For when only part fill there is a button that holds the calculation til next fill. I only use that if just putting in enough to get to France, or if in France enough to get to Andorra if heading that way. Thumbs Up

Different toys - Different cars

....the only sure way is to brim the tank....run the D3 / D4
brim the tank & do the maths...what figure you get is an average
the car computer gives an average
...the two figures will be different
...one based on miles & volumes
the other based on what sensors in the car read...I tend to favour the latter

Totally agree with the Brimming Technique.

Has anyone else noticed any difference in MPG when they use the more expensive super fuel types. Ive tried it a couple of times but have never really noticed the difference.

I occasionally use reddex but only when its at a reduced price in Tesco's. Then I stock up but I can say I still don't seem to have seen a better MPG. Mine is an auto and sits around 27.

I now only use the posh stuff, engine seems to prefer it as it's a lot smoother & doesn't smoke anywhere near as much. As per mpg, I used to think it gave +10% mpg but not sure now. The extra costs I just put down to running an older car.

Being the sad anorak that I am, I started to record the computer MPG readings alongside the fill-to-fill calculated figures that I've always done. Over the last dozen fills, the computer reading has ranged from 1.7 to 2.9 MPG above the calculated figure, with an average of 2.2.

I've no idea why it varies so much. The distance covered (around 3500 miles) has included towing a caravan, steady motorway work and my regular daily commute, but there's no pattern to the variation.

I have a TdV6 HSE of 2006. I kept track of the consumption for over 3 years. There was not much off-roading nor pulling involved.
Did do yearly trips to the Algarve (30% milage), and always drive on the edge of contributions to the state... Mr. Green

Result : 10,9 l/100km over 75.000Km... Sadly I did not mark down the results from the onboard thingy..
The speedometer is about 5% lower as what the TomTom tells me, so the milage will be off 5% too, as
the consumption metered will be... Whistle Whistle

I endorse what has been said here.

I have a spreadsheet recording consumption "brimmed to brimmed" from new over 64k miles - consumption over the last 28k miles has averaged 24.9 MPG.

Best tank full was earlier this month in France two up & little congestion on the open road - 28.8 MPG

Worst was also in France last December, 21.2 MPG fully laden with top-box when I averaged 69.8 MPH over c. 4 hours when pushing on to catch a ferry between 03:00 & 07:00 with the ambient temperature about -6 degrees.

I have often compared calculated fuel consumption again the lying LCD display which I find overstates by 2.5 to 4.5 mpg.

I tend to find that the first journey after refuelling is hugely optimistic. Once left to sit for a bit, it returns to normal.
This may be the same effect as resetting the trip computer, as I always reset once refuelled.

For instance, the best recorded mpg was 37.0mpg, after fuelling up in the morning and driving 150miles
If I have to fuel up on my way home, it's only a few miles to the house. Next journey after that is down at mid-high 20's...

It isn't..

liken it to a weather vane...very approximate & dependant on things that may not matter

Over 117k miles my D3 auto has averaged 23.85mpg whereas the dashboard always suggests 27.5-28.5mpg. It's an optomistic fuel calculation system that Land Rover use - designed to keep us users happy.

Re mileage, not necessarily. I once did a run from Cascais to S Wales in a Sprinter based camper. The speedo was over reading by 10% but I also ran a GPS track log and the odometer was only 0.1 mile out over the 1500 miles.
