Tdv6 17.4 mpg
Brought the wife a discovery around a month ago and not really driven it myself that much. Got in it today and computer saying 17.4 mpg! Really!! When I was looking for one I would've rather of brought a v8 but didn't want the wife to be filling up constantly. Wish I'd gone for one now lol.
We had a tdv6 rrs and that returned 22+mpg. Ok most of the journeys the wife are non motorway but my v8 car even beats that.

Tyre pressures first, then check you brakes aren't binding at all.

What sort of trips? For short, cold trips around town in winter that's about right. Check for hot wheels to indicate binding calipers or EPB but that could just be be what's normal.
PS Mind you if the trip comp is saying 17.4mpg there might well be an issue. The trip comp typically over estimates by 2 - 5mpg. That's so you get a warm fuzzy feeling while warming up the planet.

i average around 22mpg around town and 28 on a combined run, if the wife drives it I get 17 around town but better on the motorway, its something to do with the female brain only being able to use the throttle in two positions, on and off.

Tyre pressures are fine as I checked them as soon as I got the car. Brakes are fine as I brought a set of brembos off forum member a couple of weeks ago and had it up on ramp. Previous owner had only just fitted new discs all round and pads, all of witch are running free. Had a gearbox flush done the other weekend ( cheers Geoff ) but gearbox felt pretty good beforehand anyway. Not sure if it's had a fuel filter on last service but that's something I'll be doing next.
I'm not over bothered. At the end of the day it does what it does but thought it would return over 20mpg at least.

I have had my manual D3 since new in May 2009 and it has averaged 25.4 MPG over 78k miles.
That's with a heavy right foot, engine "chipped by BAS, and adding SO2 to the fuel, & of course including the SO2 in the "fuel aggregate" - some people apparently don't !
The best consumption I get is over 30 MPG on a long steady run at speeds of c. 70MPH, the worst 22.7 MPG returning fully laden from Greece, with a roof rack & averaging c. 70 MPH in cold colditions.

My commute to work is 3 miles, I'm currently sat around 13mpg
But then at 6 miles a day I'm only using 2.5 gallons a week.05 V8 HSE Bonatti Grey

Yep the V8 is tad heavy around town.
I was laughing at 5.6mpg showing on dash the other day.
