V8 4.4L and bioethanol E85 |
|
Hi all,
Is there somebody here who's tried bioethanol and D3 V8 motor ?
Few days ago I filled my tank with 25% of E85... and no difference for the moment (apart the amount at the cash) !
I am very tempted to increase this percentage
A lot of people use 100% of E85 in their Range Rover 4.6 (P38) without any modification, nor any problem.

Hi,
I think anyway you don't risk damage, the worst the engine will lose a bit of power.
Moreover, the V8 only requires 95 octane and not 98 as on many car.
25% octane 85 + 75% octane 98 = 94.75 octane.
In my opinion you should be able to rise lower.
In the last Morocco Desert Storm Challenge, there was a D3 G4, and have a little affected by the poor quality of petrol but nothing serious, a little cliquetit. But once they found regular petrol everything went back in order.
See you.
PS : in two week i'll go to Lybia, Egyt, Jordania, Syria : not more than 80 octane

Hello,
I like very well your avatar

Oh ! I'm sorry if you don't know bioethanol in Belgium
You mean France is ahead for once ? So don't apologize
Just read that http://www.saabbiopower.co.uk/bioethanolUK/ or that http://www.britishbioethanol.co.uk/

Did once put a water injector into the inlet manifold of a (petrol) car with good effect but:-
1. no electrolysis involved
2. er.. yes it was a 1952 side-valve Standard 8
3. Petrol HAD gone up to 1s.7d. (= 8p or £0.08 or €0.12) per gallon {€0.03 per litre for sake] 2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods

AndrewW,
I can't see what your answer have to do with my question
Bioethanol is not a scam...
In France, Bioethanol (and LPG) are available at fuel station !

Sorry to lighten the moment.
I'll get my coat, and set off to the diesel pump...
(..and no bio-fuel either. I don't believe in agricultural destruction of forests and crop land to make fuel...)
Sorry to disturb

Be careful not to damage your fuel pump or fuel injectors. Ethanol is not a good lubricant (although some would argue otherwise if imbibed) and burns hotter. There is some adverse publicity going round at the moment about long term damage to engines and components, plus MUCH MORE IMPORTANT, denying third world millions cheap food! There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

Sounds like good stuff, costs the earth and screws the car, the environment and the third world economy in one move.
No wonder the EU and Gordon Brown are going for it!
I must confess I use ethanol for cold starts. Scottish origin, in a hip flask. 2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods

besides the fact, that if the US grew nothing but corn for ethanol, it could only produce 8% of the demand, and the result would be no food production. This is NOT a solution, it's more of a problem. If LR would make the effort to sell the diesel in the US it would have more of a positive effect. Then, let's move on the the facts from a LR mechanic (not me)
This response comes from our local LR site, where (before pumping) I asked the correct questions.
http://www.texasrovers.com/e107_plugins/fo...c.php?2778
E85 should not be used in your land rover or most other vehicles for that matter, unless your vehicle is specifically designed to be a flex-fuel vehcile (FFV). E85 is corrosive to the fuel system components because of the alcohol and will cause debris buildup in your injectors. FFV's have specially designed fuel system components that use Stainless Steel fuel tanks (although I'm sure plastic would work) and teflon lined fuel hoses.
E85 has a higher octane rating than conventional gas, but it's power output is less. They say that fuel economy drops 5-15% depending on temp and driving conditions.
Also, on your LR3, you really don't want to run anything besides the premium fuel that's recommended. The engine has a high compression ratio and needs a stable fuel to keep pre-ignition from happening. If you use a lower grade fuel and the engine senses detonation, it will but the vehicle into a different timing map that retards the timing and substantially affects driveability and performance.

i have been proposed by Fochesato (famous in remap and tuning) to remap my LR3 V8 4.4 to flex fuel.
costs around 800 euros, and the guys are confirming it works well.
The Ethanol, (in France) is not a pure alcohol solution but varies from 65 to 85% of the volume depending on the season.
there is also now on the market, special spark plugs to better suit the constraints of SuperEthanol.
a lot of people are driving Jags and LR and RR with Super Ethanol with no issue so far.
does anyone know how to remap the ignition on LR3?
thks
