Newbie with Suspension Issues
Evening all, Newbie here.
Been lurking in the corners of this site since February when I purchased my 2006 Discovery 3 HSE in Buckingham Blue. Very well presented and educational forum I must say.
I recently had the gearbox Mega Flushed to stop a slight judder when pulling which I am happy to say seems to have worked. However, whilst there I was informed that certain parts of the suspension were in need of repair. They are as follows:
1. Front Lower Arm Bushes (Both Sides)
2. Inner & Outer Tie Rods (Both Sides)
3. Rear Upper Arm Bushes U/S (Both Sides).
I live in the Southend area of Essex and my question is, does anyone know of a decent garage in my area capable of carrying out the repairs or possibly a mobile mechanic within this Group and a sort of ball park figure of the cost to do so?
Thanks in advance

Can’t help you with the garage but you can get a ballpark estimate as follows:
1. figure out what components you want (genuine, OEM, aftermarket quality, aftermarket ... less quality)
You can do this by going to a parts dealer webpage, for example Advanced Factors is easy as they’ve got the navigation well thought out and it should be easy to figure out even if you don’t know the part numbers. In your case they sell the arms as kits. Genuine will cost more than the most expensive aftermarket ones.
2. Assume at least two hours per side per arm.
It might be less. It could be more. This assumes no big time violence is required to remove them. Usually bolts are seized and require cutting. It probably makes sense to replace the complete arm rather than just the bushes. If you calculate the price for just bushes (and work required) you’ll usually end up with a positive business case for the complete thing.
Have them look at other things with a critical eye. Like rear knuckle bushes since they might also be tired. If your MOT is like the inspection we have here they’ll notice only the most obvious stuff.
Don’t forget to budget for a four wheel alignment.
And welcome
