What few realise is the more modern 4x4s are more efficient than many other types of cars currently on the market. I think it is outrageous that everyone who drives an SUV or 4x4 is tarred with the same "Chelsea tractor" brush.

Thumbs Up

Good article.

the Discovery 3 is infinitely more comfortable on a longer journey.

Totally agree. Just driven London to Perth and back in a weekend. 15 hours of driving and as fresh as a fresh thing.

And he's a brave bloke - driving an 04 plate D3...

Just a couple of points to the article on the road trip:
1.Adelaide was not a penal colony. Free settlers founded Adelaide.
2. Grampians Nat. Park goes from near the coast to the Wimmera, an intense farming area. The desert is about 150 km north west of The Wimmera, as the row flies.
3.The great Ocean Road IMHO is one of the worlds great drives. (Ive done it in a Hooper Equipped V12 cat and it was superb). There never was 12 rock formations (in white mans time in Aus) to be the apostles. We had London Bridge as one of the formations; but time and mass wasting put the span on it into the water as it collapsed (leaving 4 people stranded on a monolith. Shocked )
4. A bloke I went to school with lived in Pin Oak crescent, in Vermont South. They HATED it. Wanted to kill every stranger that came into their quiet little court. They moved out and it took 5 years to sell the place.
5.The Star Hotel in Walhalla has great meals & accom. (Conflict of interest here I know Mick Leaney the owner).
Did you think I would leave you crying,
When there's room in my D3 for 7,
Climb in here Joe we'll soon be flying,
I can go just as fast with 7.
