Hi,

I'm interested in the Map updates disc you got, have you got a part number or supplier you can Pm me Please, I have an 08 G4 and it would be nice to have some of the newer roads on there......rather than appearing to drive through fields and confusing the poor thing.....

Best regards

It has got a bit better since I set up my FBH remote and got it running a lot more regularly but still a fair cloud when it first fires.

Only fix is a new one (£150 from duckworthparts if they still have any) or strip yours down and decoke. Can try a bit of brake cleaner in the inlet (don't have your washing on the line!) Thumbs Up

That's slightly better to know that I'm not alone!! Why did you fit a FBH remote? I've read about timers and remotes being fitted but never really looked into it that much!

Mine had never smoked at all not even a hint and ran cleanly every time. Then just before Xmas it started smoking big time. It was so bad I couldn't leave it running while stopped unless I put recirculation on or it filled the car with diesel fumes.

I was always a bit disappointed that mine never gave any indication that is running apart from the smell and I could feel the heat from the exhaust, that disappointment some went when it started smoking Rolling with laughter

Was going to strip and clean it but at £150 delivered I ordered an new one from Duckworths. I will clean the old one and keep as a spare. I suspect my old one has an air leak because it always ran clean and the change was instant not over time. When mine started smoking the exhaust silencer on the FBH was leaking smoke also so a new one made good sense as an exhaust is £80.

Fitting is fairly easy once you get at it.

Grill out,NS Headlight out,NSF wheel arch trim remove, inner arch liner remove,10mm clamp on the exhaust in the wheel arch loosen and slide bottom pipe off, fuel pipe clipped beside air spring mount(slide cover up and press down clamp to remove pipe),release electrical connectors from FBH and ease cable clamps from the mount.Clamp the coolant pipes and slide the clamps off with pliers or correct tool. 4 bolts hold the FBH in, with the PAS reservoir remove from it's mount you can move everything out of the way and jiggle the FBH out loosening the top exhasut clamp gives a bit more movement(there is also a cable loom clipped to it's black plate that gets in the way)

Fitting is just the reverse, put some masking tape over the fuel pipe so no dirt gets in as you route it and top up the coolant when done.

After a prime with the IID mine fired first time, no smoke, happy days Thumbs Up

As it's still working I might try and make it through the rest of winter with it smoking then maybe in the summer I'll see about replacing it before next winter. I'll be sure to use your instructions when it comes to it though Thumbs Up

And like you say, if it's smoking then I know it's working!! Laughing

why fit a remote? so I can fire the heater while still sat in the warm house and then go out 20 minutes later and get straight in the car and defrost the screen in 30 seconds and drive off Thumbs Up

It's a worthwhile mod and can be done for under £100 Very Happy

I see Wink

Although I have found that my windscreen clears quite quick just using the defrost button, I guess a lot of that is thanks to the heated screen! I bet you get through a lot more fuel using it with a remote?

The FBH doesn't use a lot of fuel. By warming the engine up, it will then use less fuel, when driven, than a cold engine. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the info mate, I did go on to read about the fbh remote and have added it to my very long want list!

I like the look of the BAS unit that uses the 3rd button on the key fob or the one that Jay666d posted up.
