I've heard another tale of a broken earth strap causing the accelerator cable to become 'live' tonight.
So I will add another engine earth cable onto my LR90 this weekend - just to be safe.
Chris, Let us know when you find the cause of the fire. Matt

Well I have had a quick look at the 110 and found that the earth strap has indeed snapped (see pic)
heres a pic of the throttle cable.
heres a pic of whats left of the brand new Goodridge braided brake pipes.

D3matt I honestly didn't have the hand brake on when you were towing me, When I get a chance I'll be taking it apart to see what's happened to it. Focus ST500

An eye opener that such a simple thing as an earth cable could cause so much damage.
I'm going to add a second earth on mine. May help my starting problems too. Matt

day, many thanks Dunc and Mrs Dunc. Had a great time once the kids and dog had settled in the back and thanks to Sufun and Mr and Mrs Spotter for doing the navigation............I'd found it hard to read the map as it kept falling in the footwell
Due to punctures in Sufun's AT2 and Spotters MTR I'm counting myself lucky to come away intact with all my boots on and an air jack is a definate purchase!
Looking forward to Tong in two weeks
PS Hartwell Oxford are getting some free advertising tomorrow ..............a chumbucket with lots of MUD TONGA GREEN G4 bits and of course DVD for the kids!

I saw some of you chaps over the weekend. I can only remember Spotter and ChumBucket....names in the window. I was the battered blue Discovery 1 that passed you as you went thru the 'bomb holes' I think you can just been talking to a couple of the marshalls on our event.
I should also ~wave hello~ to those that flashed there lights at me on the road just after I had finished the lane. Particularly liked the one with it's front covered in mud and only the wiper area on the windscreen cleared.
Just thought that I'd pop by and say Hi
Laters.... _______________________________________

If there was a dark blue D3 under there (difficult to see I know) and two colurs of mud (pink from Herefordshire way & grey from Wilts) and at the back of a group with a grey 90 in it, it was prob me!
PS Welcome cooter!!!! Honda dogs say "It's a Land Rover, of course it will break down! If you wanted reliability you should have bought a Honda."
Can't take them anywhere!!!

Hi Cooter, yes, I remember the grin on your face when we started flashing and waving. DSL was at the rear of our group (6 Disco3s and my wife in her new Defender) and was driving the dark blue and VERY muddy Disco3. I'm only down at Moreton, so if you ever nip through the ford there's a chance you'll see the D3 or Defender parked at the end of the lane on the right as you come through from the forest.

Chris200100, did the speedo cable melt the brake reservoir and ignite the brake fluid? It looks like it passes close. I was wondering what was actually burning in there that took 3 fire extinguishers and some high carbon footprint French water to put out; sounds like more than just plastic coatings.
for you and the state of all those bits on that great machine, but I'm sure you'll soon have it all back in better than working order, no doubt with 5+ earth straps holding everything together.
Bad news on the Goodridge braided brake pipes - bad timing. Do you think these worked for a while as an earth braid too? I can't quite get my head around why these would become part of the earth circuit... corruptissima re publica plurimae leges
Loosely, "The state with the most corruption has the most laws"
In it's first 9 years alone labour created over 3000 new offences (that's one a day)...corrupt? You decide...
