problem with anti lock brake light coming on and vibration
I have a 2004 Disco diesel 2.7ltr there was a problem with the steering wheel shaking when doing over 50mph and the anti lock brake light coming on and the wheel vibrating on the drivers side. We took it to be fixed, but when it came back, although the steering wheel is fixed, after a few short trips out the light and noise came back. Took it back and had its MOT, had new brake pipes, fluid, oil, filters done and its passed. They had another go at the fault and we have it back, but it did it again last night on a dry road and only going about 30mph on a left hand bend. Any ideas would be welcomed.

The fault you describe suggests to me, either a faulty, mis-aligned or loose wheel speed sensor, or possibly the steering angle sensor alignment is out and needs re-calibrating.Clive

Hi Clive, Thank you for the advise and I will pass on to who does our car. I do wonder if the problem started 12 months ago when we went to a wedding and our daughters boyfriend drove as all back from the venue, and went around a roundabout like a mad thing, screeching the wheels as if he was on a race track, lights came on and we had to stop about 5 miles down the road. Left it for a couple of mins and carried on.

I don't think you mean the ABS light but more likely the one with a picture of a yellow skidding car (can't remember what it's called). If so, the noise you hear is the ABS triggering on an individual wheel because it thinks that it is moving in a different direction to which you are steering i.e. it thinks you are skidding.
The likely causes of this is could be an under inflated tyre on that (or other) wheel (do you have a slow puncture that you do not know about) or steering angle sensor needs recalibrating, or a faulty wheel speed (ABS) sensor on that wheel I think?
I'm sure others will be along shortly if I have any of that wrong.

That's a bit rude of him, perhaps he thought it was a hire car
Good point about the under inflated tyre Clive

Its was rude, lol poor old car had never gone so fast. Trouble is, he is no longer on the scene and we keep having bills for trying to fix it

I think we do have a slow puncture, Thank you for thinking of that. x

Interesting, as I cannot get mine to do that without disengaging the DSC. Normally the DSC will cut power before , even with throttle wide open.
