engine system fault
Hi all,
I have a discovery 3 tdv6 on the way home it came up with engine system fault and started to lose power, and I noticed a little bit of smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe no warning lights were on, anyone else had this problem
Are your EGRs blanked? Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

As above, check your intercooler hose(s) for splits. Blanking the EGRs is always a good idea too. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

Cheers I'll have a look although I suspect it might of been a electrical gremlin as the fault has disappeared
Plenty of genuine problems could come and go. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

My other half had an 'engine management warning' issue and a loss of power this morning on her way to work. It looks like I'll be getting acquainted with the chaps at Green Oval slightly sooner than planned.
As above, have you checked the IC hose(s) and are the EGRs blanked?
Again, it's an early car so would be a good idea to blank the EGRs anyway. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

I'll do a hose check when I get in this evening. I suspect that the EGRs aren't blanked so it might be on the cards now.

Mine is saying "Engine system fault" when I start and stop but no warning lights ?
No power loss or smoke either ? Blanked my EGR's off years ago and replaced the intercooler pipe last year when it split on way home from holiday with lots of smoke and no pull but no warnings at the time ?
Think it needs a diagnostic check
FWIW, the reason none of you are seeing an engine MIL is because there isn't one.
There are, of course, various things that can cause the ESF message/black smoke/lack of power; EGRs and the turbo hoses are just two. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

I've just realised that I never posted an update.
I took the car in to Green Oval for a scan, and it threw up a fault relating to the turbo actuator solenoid. In response they have freed and lubricated the actuator rod in the hope that it's nothing more serious.
So far I've had no further problems, and no new codes have been stored. None apart from low aircon gas pressure, but I think I can survive with only the heater until the weather makes its mind up.

If all the pressure has gone from the AC it is worth getting it repaired ASAP to avoid moisture getting into the system and/or the seals drying out. If not the repair could be quite expensive.

I just thought I should add, and I don't know if it was freeing the turbo actuator or the fuel system cleaner but on a couple of long trips over the Bank Holiday we noticed a big improvement (well relatively) in fuel economy.
