Rear bulb fault, possibly brake pedal switch ? Daft as it seems these can cause those sort of faults

Had exactly the same turned out to be a duff brake light bulb I'd check all bulbs and make sure they work then the brake switchRange Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8 what a car

Problem turned out to be the power supply plug for the transfer box ECU, one pin had rusted away partially, it was supplying power enough to communicate with the ECU but not enough for it to function. The fact it could still communicate made the fault hard to find. Took two lads half a day to trace it. The mechanic took the time to show me the wiring diagram. The main point I learned is that there is a huge amount of things that can cause these symptoms, virtually any part of the what makes it go, stop or gives it suspension. Cost €160 to repair.

Lucky you that have a mechanic that understands.
Here in Sweden they always suggests changing some expensive hardware. Usually it is not the cause of the problem.
