If in doubt, replace it
The extra oil pressure will be more than welcome after 100k miles
Substitute 100k miles with your mileage
I changed belts on an 06MY, and the pump was visibly cracked on the outside of the casing.
That was the most gentle drive home ever, and I replaced my own pump next day.
Even at 60k miles, my oil pressure light went off much much quicker than before, with less rattling on start upMy D3 Build Thread

Hi guys
Not sure if this helps, but my D3 went to Geoff and Flack today for belt change and they also changed the oil and water pump.
Mine is a d3 on a 56 plate, first registered Sept 2006, VIN SALLAAA136A4@@@@@@
It was fitted with the old, dodgy oil pump casing. Fortunatley for me, although there was a slight leak from the front crank seal, it had not cracked, but I saw the old pump and sure enough it was the one which has caused catastrophic failures to a few unlucky souls on here.
The guys did the belts, oil pump, water pump and EGRs for me, and it drove home like a dream.
Big thumbs up!

Should I be worried, I picked up my 07 D3 today done 69,000. It was serviced last yr but cost of service was only £300 so I don't think belts & pumps have been done. I will ring LRC in the morning to check, but if nou done, should I be getting these done asap? The reports of oil pump failures is worrying. Ta

LRCS won't be able to help you with service records, they don't have that info. You'll need to call the dealer/garage. Sounds like you need to have the belts done, plus oil pump at the same time. If it was me I wouldn't wait for the correct anniversary, no problem getting it done early.
Think I'd better warn my friends with a 56 plate 06MY. Belts already done so... Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

and Geoff and Flacks work in progress - I cant rate these guys highly enough. I was considering Stratsones for the belt change before I found this forum, but I am so happy I took this route.
I would never have known about the oil pump, and by all accounts LR and the dealer network refuse to accept there is a problem with them, until they fail.
Geoff and Flack also changed the linkage on my gearshift and blanked my EGRs, and the mpg is already looking better according to the dash, I will calcualte and compare bfore and after on that. Also the throttle is so much more responsive than before - assume this is the EGRs.

Is there any way to tell what kind of pump installed without removing the belt plastic-covers and visual inspection? I'm looking for a VIN code list identifying the type of oil pump installed.

I would like to change mine (MY07).
I do like to know two things;
1- Will I need a crankshaft locking tool, or is there another way?
2- Is the crankshaft drive pulley bolt left or right threated?
Kind regards,
Glenn

If it's a D3 Not really just for piece of mind have it done. It's not worth the risk
