Done the deed and got a Disco...
So I am now the proud owner of a 2007 HSE, diesel, auto in dark grey.
I have purchased the one I mentioned on my introductory post which was advertised at 100k but actually has done 117600 miles. Overall it's in very good condition, had timing belt and EGR valves done at the last service (103k) and drives very nicely.
It's already booked into Elliot Engineering for it's 120k service and I don't envisage any major issues but that perhaps is just my ignorance! I am taking it to the Alps in a couple of weeks when we go skiing so hopefully it will perform really well.
So I am looking to do a few things over the next few weeks and researching as much as I can on here to find out the best ways of attacking each task. In no particular order they include:
- fit side steps
- fix the only electrical problem I could find which is one of the heated rear seats not working
- find a rubber/solid boot liner that works with both 7 and 5 seat configs
- find a good DAB radio solution
- upgrade the bluetooth so my Galaxy S5 works properly (atm there mic does not seem to work, audio is OK)
- dog crate
- get a detachable tow bar
- see if I can get some of the scratches in the privacy glass sorted (pretty much the only cosmetic issue)
Anything else I should be thinking of?
I am looking forward to sharing my experiences on the site.
Cheers
jez

Not sure to be honest. We did speak with the garage to confirm the belts were done which they did. They also mentioned the EGR valves but there was no mention of the oil pump. Elliots will check it all out next week so if it does still need doing then it will get done then.
Thanks for the heads up!

.......may be worth a quick search ref the "oil pump casing".... can be quite a serious issue, as ,if it fails then the engine will be trashed... not a huge number of failures reported but enough to warrant an investigation. Unfortunately it involves a fair bit of spanner work to check it out. Not sure where you are but Flack did mine (highly recommended) and I was lucky - it was cracked and did indeed need replacing.2007 Base D3 - Buckingham Blue

Just a bit of an update...
We have just returned from a trip to France. We did around 1600 miles to the Alps and back via Paris with no problems at all.
Before we went the car was serviced at Elliot Engineering who picked up a few minor things on a 15k service. We have some suspension bushes and bits done, oil change etc, etc. We had to have a new tyre which was £160.00 plus the tracking.
The car was a dream to drive down the autoroutes, pop it in cruise control and away you go. We averaged around 27mpg which I thought was not bad.
I am fitting side steps this weekend...

I did ask about this and wanted the oil pump checked. The advice was that it was not really possible to just check it without taking the whole thing out which would essentially prompt a replacement anyway. There was confirmation that oil pump issues had been noted on 07 plates but in their experience they had noted very few failures and the once that they knew of had happened at much lower mileages that ours and therefore it was unlikely there was a problem.
Of course I could insist the work is done but it's hard to know exactly the best thing to do. The advice on here is obviously from the collective experience of many posters with years of experience but equally the guys at Elliots have years of experience themselves, an excellent reputation and the advantage of having been able to look at the vehicle directly.
Am I gambling? Perhaps but you could equally look at it as risk analysis.

I never bothered getting the oil pump bolt done on my D2 ( 1 hour job ) as it had done 190k miles and couldn't possibly need doing. It never made it to 195k, engine dead and my pride and joy was not an economical fix as I already had the D3 to throw my hard earned cash at so the car sold for parts.
Sure it will cost a few hundred in labour plus the new strenghened pump housing but will you be kicking yourself in a years time if you are looking at a £6k plus bill to replace the engine?
Had my D3 pump replaced with the water pump and all belts by Geoff and Flack a few weeks ago now and am certain that that particular gremlin will not be affecting my D3.
Peace of mind.

not very experienced then , you only have to read a few posts on here then maybe your not want to gamble , as for checking you don't have to take the oil pump of
