Overall Height of Discovery 3 ?

I am bemused as to the "official" & actual overall height of an air suspension D3.

The user manual says:-

However the printed sticker on the sun visor suggests:-

1.97m (6' 6") - which doesn't appear in the user manual, but appears to be with a sun roof open; &

1.92m (6' 4") - which again doesn't tally with any number in the user manual.

My D3 has 17" wheels fitted with 245/70/R17 BF Goodrich ATs.

I have twice recently (Southampton & Bath) failed to get into car parks with a height restriction of 6'5" (1.95m) [which seems pretty standard] which should surely be accessible to a D3 when in access height (1.83m).

I can't believe the problem lies in my 245/70/R17 tyres?

When you say "failed to get in" do you mean the car would have touched the roof or did someone stop you from entering Question

I think the difference between the 1.92 & 1.887 is the sharks fin ( Not on all vehicles) . Your tyres will only give you an extra 7mm height.

In both cases there were hanging "warning" boards saying "height restriction of 6'5" (1.95m)" or words to that effect.

On the first occasion an attendant refused to let me in after I touched the warning board (but only just) in saying "a Land Rover took out a number of lights recently". I showed him the page from the User manual but he was adamant.

On the second occasion I chickened out because the warning board was going to touch the roof before the rise in its level.

Why does the sun visor sticker relate to 1.97m (6' 6") & 1.92m (6' 4"), and by "symbol" refer one to the user manual where neither of these figures are mentioned?

Is there some way of accessing a "super-low" access height just for circumstances such as this?

DO NOT RELY ON THESE BOARDS! I got under one into a loading area and all was well until I hit the lintle on the exit door. Height stated on board was right but board was set too high. When I "enquired" what was going on I was told the board got stuck on vans occasionally and links in the chain broke so they just put it back up without replacing them. Whistle

Access height is on the bump rubbers.. So other than taking air out of the tyres it cannot go lower.

Access Mode still gives you some suspension travel and it is not on the bumpstops. It's set at 50mm below normal height.

Transportation Mode (with ignition off) = bump stops.

You are lucky you stopped, SWMBO took my D2 with a brand new, never used hannibal roof rack in to a car park. When the roof rack stated to rub on the roof of the car park, she just kept driving, it bent all the side rails flat down. Big Cry

When I asked her "Didn't you stop and let some air out of the tyres"? she said, Oh never thought of that.

So I asked how did you get out?

Oh she said, it didn't make as much noise driving back out, the roof must be higher on the way out.
