Thanks for the info folks! Some interesting stuff there! So, even they do repair it would it still be a Cat D? The other thing I meant to ask was, if they offer me a settlement I don't have to accept straight away do I? I would probably want to consult folk on here first to make sure I wasn't getting a fair price. If it ends up going in that direction... D3 TDV6 XS

If the vehicle is repaired to original specification and inspected after repair the Cat D can be removed. D3 TDV6 S MY2005

When I had a car written off 4 years a go the accessor looked at the condition of the car and then talk through examples for sale on the internet and based his price on that. He said the days when you could bump the offer by 20% have gone because they have easy access to comparisons.
The last 2 times I've had anything to do with my insurance company(Direct Line) I have been surprised how good the offers were. They are often comparing to retail prices so it makes a difference. IID PRO

You don't want to accept any settlement below What it will cost to replace the car plus any declared mods. Forget what the insurers say, you have incurred losses at someone elses fault.
They are lucky that you're just claiming for the car...... whiplash and psychological trauma could add thousands to the compensation you deserve but you're playing fair and just want the cost of replacement at market value.
Do you have legal cover on your policy? Always worth the extra in situations like this

give me a call - pm'd my number to you.
looks like less damage than there was to mine as im assuming the airbags havnt gone off
re buy back price, my insurers (LRI) let me buy it back for the same price they had been offered by the salvage Co. - Copart in my case.
FYI in 2012 : it was a 2006 HSE with 150k miles. buy back price was £3950. I sold the engine with ancillaries for £2500... Duncan

Heard off the insurance this morning, they have authorised the repairs to the Discovery and there will be no damage category tagged to it. Many thanks for your help, one happy lad! D3 TDV6 XS

Absolutely! Was convinced it wasn't a go-er. Got a Volvo XC90 as courtesy car until the Disco is reunited, so it's not all bad. D3 TDV6 XS

Nathan
Cat D is applied to vehicles if it's repairable but they decide not to, usually economics involved. If it's repairable then no cat applied and carry on

The plot thickens, I phoned the garage this morning for a progress report and they said after starting the repair work, they've found more damage and it's been declared a total loss. Gutted. D3 TDV6 XS
