Heading for the breakers?
Evening folks,
I'm just after abit of advice on, what was my pride and joy! I bought my D3 in March last year, and it's took me roughly most of 2014 to get everything right on it. New bushes, timing belts, arms, discs etc etc. Managed to get it just how I wanted it and sadly on Monday I was involved in an RTC which has ultimately seen my Disco off the road. The other party has accepted full responsibility, they came off a lot worse sadly! I'm 22 and this is the first time I've had anything like this happen, I heard from the garage which is dealing with my D3 and they have quoted £5,800 in damages to mine alone. Although its yet to be confirmed by the insurance, I would imagine it's a write off. I understand there could be an option to buy it back, but do you guys think it would be worth it? Absolutely gutted if I have to let it go, but surely it's lost whatever value it had left after a collision? I've attached some pictures anyway.
Ouch. May be worth dropping a line to DiscoDunc - he has experience of buying back AND stripping an early D3 and I believe was looking for another with some project in mind.
He's partial to Tonga Green too I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I thought 3rd party insurers couldn't write your vehicle off, only your own as your making a claim off the other party they have a duty to repair your car,
Obviously without looking properly its hard to say but it all looks superficial damage and if it's anywhere near 5800 to repair then fair play.
Someones having your pants down!

Cheers folks, I'm not sure how it all works! I've not had the full list of damages, as you said the damage looks superficial however the passenger side door wouldn't open, or only slightly so I'm presuming there's something more to it. It'll probably cost a lot less if someone else we're to do it, but I'm guessing with it been insurance garages add what they want on?D3 TDV6 XS

The door probably won't open as the wing has been knocked backwards and is impeding the movement.
Hopefully it's not all bad news and it gets repaired nice and quickly!

Looks light damage to me.....if they write it off rip their arms off to buy it back! Easy repair and most of the panels you'll easy get! Can't see that being categorised even......

I write-off would not surprise me, but very repairable if the chassis is ok (which it usually is as they are tough as old boots).

This is £1400 worth of parts alone from LR......draw your own conclusions....
If they've admitted liability, withdraw your claim on you policy and Perdue them via your own solicitor.......that way writing it off is much much less likely.

Having been in a previous non-fault accident, the insurance company of the other party can be pressured into repairing the car to its pre-accident condition, regardless of repair costs...
Obviously, you wouldn't want back something that had major structural damage, but for cosmetic repairs such as this, they can be forced to repair, rather than write off My D3 Build Thread
