Partially seized front calliper

The car has failed it's test today on a partially seized front calliper - this is the same calliper that was replaced three years ago by a Landrover re manufactured part.

I'm not impressed.

Is it the piston seized or is it the pad seized in the carrier? Mine was the latter, you can replace the carrier separately from the piston unit.

I've found the D3 calipers to be quite poor quality...always magnified by living next to a sea loch!
On the plus side, they are very cheap to replace and nice and easy to get at.
Of course, if you look after them (re-grease pistons and sliders, clean and grease the carrier surfaces, etc.) they will last a lot longer.
I wouldn't expect the calipers to last anything like 3 years without occasional TLC.

I gather from what they said it is the Pistons seized.
The car gets serviced on the dot every time and it's not seen any rough stuff.

That's really rough, the piston have rubber sleeves to protect the piston and it get lubricated!

I'm not happy. It was a pukka Landrover part .
He said the seals were kaput - I haven't touched them.

A pattern part gets fitted this time!
