Auto box new oil

Done the gearbox oil this evening & to say it was a doddle is an understatement.
I put in Fuchs Titan ATF 4134, and she is changing as smooth as silk, old oil was dark coming out, but saying that ZF long life is a yellow brown in any case. The new oil was very red. Going to do a few miles & then do a second flush & fill.
On the other hand my disco 3.co.uk stickers front & rear came today, so I fitted these today also.

Did you check the specs of the oil versus the ZF oil?

This oil has been specially produced & chosen to replace the ZF long life by Fuchs. So yes it is the same spec. A friend of mine has a Mercedes garage & he put me on to this oil from his supplier. It's used in the Mercedes ZF boxes & also disco owners have been using this oil with great success. It's a sad case of scare mongering by ZF to make us believe that their oil is the only one to use, so they can cash in on us cash happy fools.
My box is as smooth as silk now. Fuchs Titan ATF 4134 is the way to go. The only diff between them is ZF is a browny yellow colour & Fuchs is red. Good luck with anybody about to do this & if there is anything I can do to help then, just drop me a pm.

Funny I have just been reading my old posts. Can’t believe it’s been nearly 4.5 years since i done the gearbox sump conversion & oil change with the Fuchs 4134 Titan oil. Well just an update it’s still running beautifully smooth. So I highly recommend this gear oil.

I used the same oil and can highly recommend it mine is now on 245600 miles original gearbox I’ve done over 40k with the Titan oil and decided to do a mini flush oil looked good and smelt ok but 6l of new oil has made the changes smoother

How long did it take for you to change the oil as I’m planning on doing it soon. Is as simple as you say ? Cheers 🍻

From my experience it was relatively quick if your ok on your back, about 30mins start to finish for a simple semi flush, this is how I did it

Take car for a short drive to get warm I got the temp gauge upto 1/4
Lift car making sure it’s level
Remove gearbox cover
Make sure you can undo the filler plug
If you can do the above undo the drain plug
Once empty clean area and re fit drain plug
Remove filler plug and start filling until a little dribbles out
Refit filler plug not tight though
Start car and cycle the gearbox through D-P
Under car remove the filler whilst engine is running
Start to top gearbox up I didn’t have an iid the first time so just filled until it dribbled out
Re fit filler plug and refit the cover job done

I did this three times over three days to make sure I replaced as much of the old oil with new as possible this made a huge difference to the car

Also, if you wanted to do a full flush it's a simple job with a pressure sprayer. Just search Filo method on here.

It’s a lot easier to do than you would think. Since doing mine however I have developed a leak, not from filler or drain, can’t work out where, anybody else had this?

Furnitureman that’s what I was thinking, thanks
Gary I did check rough temp, and the car was leaning slightly forward, but I only reckon I got about four litres back in before it was full. The crossmember has always been slightly wet with oil but no drips, but now it’s dripping on the drive, not much but it’s starting to leave a patch. Any ideas?

Hi I have just changed the oil in my 2006 auto and fitted the conversion pan, easier and quicker job than I thought, I run an Indy garage so it was easier with a four poster and diagnostics to check temp when refilling. I will run it for a few weeks and change the oil again, I used comma oil to the correct spec and it has already improved it 👍

I want to change sump and filter too. Just changing the oil has massively improved the box, it’s the drip that’s annoying.
