First beep is just indicating that the system is activated Jez, if there's nothing more (until the crunch when you hit something!) I'd guess there either a loose connection or a software issue as if there's a problem with the actual sensors it goes crazy. Back to the dealer and tell 'em to fix it properly this time! The End

It could be a very early issue, with automatic transmission vehicles. If you used the drive away release (in reverse) the system would not activate until the wheels actually stopped i.e when you hit something! If you manually release the PB then drive away, all was well.
There is a TSB about it, simple fix, replace the PDC ecu.

But if that was the case it wouldn't do the first beep
Does the light on the button come on Jez? The End

I had the not working if you weren't stationary for a few secs issue (affected manuals too), it doesn't beep and illuminate the switch until it's activated The End

Sounds like it's activating then deactivating straight away then, if you press the button does it come back on?
You don't get one unfortunately (unless maybe you bribe Martin) The End
